On my GM cars, I could check if the doors are locked by pulling on the door handle, even if I have the fob with me. To unlock the door with the fob on me, I had to depress the little button on the handle.
With the Gladiator, however, I just have to pull on the handle (with the fob on me) to unlock and open the door. So I can't check if I locked the door by pulling on the handle. I'm left with hitting the lock button on the fob, which causes the horn to beep, or opening the door and locking (again, possibly).
Is there a quiet way to check if I've locked the vehicle?
Just got my Gladiator Overland and appreciate your useful info. My wife is much happier now that the horn is off when locking! In your settings you should have an option to turn off the honk when hitting lock. I have the 8 inch screen so I'm not sure how different it is for others.
Settings > Doors & Locks > Sound Horn With Lock and form there you should have 3 options:
-Off
-1st press
-2nd press
Edit: Looks like there is a way to do it with just the Fob only as well. Not sure if this works on all Jeeps.
Disable Horn on Lock
- 1) Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds
- 2) While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.
Speaking of soft tonneau covers, Is there a more secure type of cover for the gladiator? Thanks!Easy for me. I turn the feature off totally and lock/unlock with the key fob. And I disconnected the electric to the tailgate lock. The tailgate lock is not much of a deterrent with a soft tonneau (more like an invitation to knife the cover) and more times than not it was me that was "locked out" when I would go outside to get something and forget to bring my keys. I can lock it with the key when I want to, such as when I have any worries of the tailgate itself going missing.
