I still needed a truck, but also wanted a wrangler again. I already have multiple vehicles, so it made no sense to add another one to my garage.
So in that sense it's very practical.
Something impractical to some is very practical to others.
A full sized van is necessary for some people and some businesses, but for me it would be impractical. I can't say "vans are impractical", I can only say they are for me.
A Honda Civic is impractical - to a deer hunter who goes deep into the Iowa fields and woods every fall and hopes to haul out his kill - but to a single guy commuting to work M-F it can be quite practical.
My JT fills needs and desires, thus, it's practical. 1 instead of 2. I could say a Mojave JT is impractical - I have zero need for it and no real desire for it since mine does everything I want, everything I need and rides fantastic, so there ya go. What one defines as practical another sees as not.

Even "quality" can be subjective - I find nothing wrong with the quality on mine, not a thing. It has no squeaks, no rattles, panels fit fine, there's no corrosion on places where there shouldn't be. .........undercarriage bolts and nuts and certain other areas I can go to any dealership and find the same on other new vehicles - that's not a quality issue..... and yet some would make it down because they found a scratch on their frame or some rust/corrosion on bolts or nuts. I find the same on Chevy and Ford trucks, it's subjective, it's in how OCD you are and how you define "quality".
Mercedes has piss-poor quality. Why? Because 1,000,000 of them were recalled because the sun roof flew off at highway speeds. If anyone asks people to comment on the quality of their vehicle, it's a joke because you can't do that with people. I had to have the steering gear replaced so Jeep quality sucks. You also have to define quality to some extent conditional to the class or type of vehicle. If I'm buying a luxury brand I'm going to define quality differently and be picky about very different things.
All any blog or magazine can realistically do is survey people asking how many times their vehicle has been back for repairs - but then even that will be subjective - some will be extremely picky about things with which there really are no issues. If it's been back 5 times for transmission leaks in xxx miles, yes, that's a real problem but even here in this forum you see people complain about things as real first-world problems that are just plain not.
'I don't like where the volume control is" - you know someone is going to hate that so much that when it comes time to other questions it's going to sway them into making tiny things big because if their irrational hate for other things.

Meh.

They compare the JT and JL to all other SUV's. Neither is an SUV. Can't compare a vehicle that is designed and built to be a utility off road vehicle that is legal to drive on public roads to vehicles that are designed for luxury and comfort while on the road that MIGHT be able to go off road in certain conditions.

They can throw other JEEP products in that comparison, but the JT and JL are a totally different class.

And a medication that has been FDA approved for humans for decades, is on the World Health Organization's "List of Essential Medicines", and has consistently been one the 500 most prescribed medicines for humans in the world is now just a horse wormer.
See how that bias works?
No clue how or if that so-called horse wormer works for covid; but I do know the practice of prescribing meds for conditions they are not currently FDA approved for is common and legal and grounded in science and facts and not political beliefs.
When I had covid, my doctor did not prescribe that drug, but recommended various other OTC items to take, none of which specifically claimed to be for covid, but seem to have helped. That's really all I care about.
Oh, absolutely. I wasn't trying to imply that all Ivermectin is horse wormer, only that people are literally going to Tractor Supply and buying it in horse wormer form to treat Covid.

I found one of the Consumer Reports evaluators as he was interviewing a truck owner...

Still figuring that out, but IT for now!
Same, while in college I had a four door stripped down version with manual. I loved that damn thing until I got hit and was totaled. I still miss that damn car today.

No great story ever started out “so I was driving my reliable Corolla”.
So, I was driving my reliable Corolla, when I spotted a Jeep dealership with a wicked Jeep Gladiator on the lot. Unexpectedly I found myself compelled to pull into the dealer. Four hours later I found myself holding a pair of Jeep keys, and had signed over the title to my Corolla.

That'll do. That'll do.

I'm pitching this to some publishers, so don't steal my idea. :CWL:

On the same note why would anyone who values Consumer Reports buy a Harley Davidson there is no practical explanation for a Harley.
I had one of my best friends that was a car salesman his entire life tell me you don't sell Jeeps, Jeep people tell you what they want.

As someone who sold cars I can tell you that that makes a HUGE amount of sense.

Someone isn't going to come in and tell you that the Gladiator is slower, 10k more expensive, and doesn't do as well in crash testing as the (Brand X) pickup.

The term is cross shopping. I don't think its happening much. Because by the numbers the Wrangler / Gladiator doesn't make much sense.

When I sold cars, I quickly learned that much of the sales training that they taught us was crap. Oh, they will cross shop the Saab convertible against the Infinity, Lexus, and Benz convertible, the sales trainers would say.

But in the end, I didn't lose sales to "competitive" cars. I often lost sales to cars that were nothing like the Saab convertible. I lost one deal to a Corvette. Another to an ESCALADE!!!.

When you have a vehicle that is primarily purchased based on WANTS not needs. There is no logic to the buying decision.

I value consumer reports. I use it like a bible when I'm buying a refrigerator or dish washer.

I take everything they say with 10 grains of salt when it comes to cars. I don't think they value performance and soul enough. How do you quantify soul?? But their reliability info is useful. Something to weigh with all the other data.

Not practical? LOL - that's an interesting take. Not practical for what? Being a truck that can haul stuff where others don't and then minutes later haul someone out of the snow or much? Mine is totally practical. It's really a do-anything vehicle, sort of like a Swiss Army knife. Not always the best of the best for a specific purpose, but able to do more things better than trucks dedicated to a specific purpose. I don't tow all the time so didn't go with a BIG truck. I don't haul all the time so didn't need a 3/4 truck - I have trailers if I must haul more than this will handle. It fits my garage better than any truck I've ever had. It's good for travel across the country - for that, more practical than my Silverado was. More practical for anything I usually need a truck for. For me it's very practical. So I say practical is in the eyes of the buyer.

Sounds like maybe you have buyers remorse? I don't.
Based purely on practicality, a Ranger or Colorado does everything ours does for $10k less.

But the top and doors can't come off, and it has no soul. You can tell me that the Colorado or Ranger are boring and I'm with you 100%. But they do every useful task a Gladiator can do in comparable comfort, with better fuel economy for 10k less.

Again, I'm not knocking the Gladiator. I just chose to buy one. But what differentiates the Gladiator from a ranger is a bunch of things that fall squarely into the Wants category. Not needs.

and ps. I love my truck more every day. I spent a half hour with my 14 year old daughter on the way home from skiing blasting around on a dirt road in a few inches of fresh snow. Ha. with her egging me on faster faster. I wouldn't have that time with my Volvo. Which is why I bought the Jeep. As a family fun vehicle.

My Gladiator is no where near as comfortable as my Tacoma or my Tundra. My Tundra was like driving my living room down the road and way more power. But, my Gladiator will go places those two would not. It is also the coolest looking vehicle I've ever owned. Only thing that comes close is my FJ Cruiser maybe. My daughter asked me last night what I'm gonna do when it wears out. I told her I would put a Hemi in it. Gladiator rides like shit but it's so much more fun getting there.
Tacoma rides better?
