What I don't understand is why people think CB is dead. I hear traffic on my CB every single day. Also, no license is required. FCC is pushing GMRS due to the fact you have to pay for the license and people are gobbling it up like it's free candy. I have HAM, CB and GMRS in my JT. I get nothing on the GMRS unless my kids want to get on it and talk. Jeep Meets and others have fallen for the switcharoo. I admit I have one but only due to the fact I have almost all other FCC licenses so why not? If you want good comms, HAM will never be beat regardless what the naysayers keep saying. "I don't want to take a test", "HAM guys are think they know everything", or "HAM is for nerds". HAM is a hobby and fun for us HAMs and we don't care what the others think. As for CB, long live the AM bands.

I have both. Some clubs still use AM. The good news for the AM guys is that the channels are wide open now. Most truckers have gone to FM. I have no problems with AM for what I use it for. FM would be great, but you can't buy one for every one in the club in order to make it work. For now I still have both operating.

That is incorrect. FCC could care less if you use GMRS, HAM or CB. GMRS has been around for decades and the cost of licenses have went up and down. Ironically now your HAM license will cost you the same as GMRS.

JJ went to GMRS cause its easy and simple. Little handhelds with AA batteries and you can have a box full on your back seat. CB was always a bit more challenging. In the end use what works for you.

I wonder if the trucking community is also going that way? I used to always have CB in my trucks and it was helpful to monitor trucker talk on interstate trips, but I haven't actually had a CB for several years now. Are the commercial drivers using FRS or do they still use CB?
I farm and deliver grain with a semi, cb radios at on ti e were required for the check in process now everything is electronic check in. Have not used my cd for years. If it was in the way I would take it out.

i agree with part of this.why limit yourself to just. One form of communication? Theres this weird stigma it seems that a person is either a redneck CB dude, or a overlander GMRS guy, or a “im better than you” HAM person. Its weird. I plan on both CB and GMRS along with inreach. Theres a lot of places that primarily use either one or the other so being grumpy like the OP and trying to tell everyone to just stick with one option limits you. CB is still super valuable. Not sure why its receiving so much hate lately.

I still use CB, mind you I still have yet to put it in on the truck, but I honestly believe that CB will be around for a few more decades yet. Their simple, easy to use and if you find any ham meets you can get them for almost next to nothing

I can get some damn good range out of my CB, but I also have my dad that’s been licensed HAM for longer than I’ve been alive

...and remarkably I have more privileges to enjoy than some dead GMRS. Interestingly, why isn't GMRS free if you believe FCC is not pushing it. If they weren't pushing it you wouldn't have Jeep and Midland peddling that crap.

I truly believe the GMRS guys are just trying to get all of the CBers onboard because they don't have anybody to talk to at this point. I still can't understand what everybody is of afraid of with HAM radio. My first contact came on the day I was issued a license and the old timers on the other end pushed me in the right direction without laughing or joking about me. It's all about fellowship which this country and apparently half of the people on this forum don't know crap about.

Why should it be free ? I've been licensed for decades and have paid for decades. I have no issues with it. I pay for commercial licenses, public safety, GMRS and now Ham (finally FCC saw the light). There have been lots of GMRS radios made over the years by many vendors. JJ picked Midland as a logical choice. While a true GMRS user will see the limitations of a Midland radio many see the simple ease of use. For trail riding with a group it works fine. I have also wheeled with groups that had hams and we used 440 (pretty similar to GMRS) and did the same.

I still run CB along with GMRS in both my Jeeps along with my PS stuff. CB is still used out in the sticks as others said. Last month they were logging right down the road from my house and the crews used CB20 all month.

As said previously its all what will work for the group your with. Regardless of what groups uses what the FCC could care less. If they did care they would go after all the unlicensed users for cash or enforce manufacturers to require a license at purchase.

I never said it should be free. I paid for all of my licenses. I am licensed in just about every element the FCC has. I used to work on avionics so I have my GROL (paid), HAM (Paid), as well as the GMRS (paid). I have also been using CB for years.
