I never said anything about "physically harming" me in regard to stealing my Gladiator. It wasn't part of the discussion. I said I would NOT murder a person stealing a thing from me. I stand by that. NOT killing someone IS being a law abiding citizen. Killing someone who steals from you is not. That's my opinion. You have yours which I totally disagree with - get used to it. People have different ones and you cannot brow beat them into your point of view nor make them shut up by making accusations including, "...I do not want to live close to you" - guess what, you likely already DO live near a lot of people that share my opinion.

If you must keep posting go ahead. It's not going to suddenly make me think I should go buy a gun so I can kill someone. Ain't happening.

Register the checks? How are you going to register the simple act of see if there is BT activity without actually connecting?
If I was in a vehicle and touched the BT icon on my phone, it would show me all of the devices within range, or that I've ever connected to. None of those devices would be aware that I saw them.

So far if you are unaware of a tag that is not registered to your device your phone will warn you that you are traveling with a tag. In this moment it should also leave / upload a fingerprint (device id). If something was stolen it would have a roadmap of who was near it etc...^This is already beeing done btw for example at stores. They dont connect but can use bt devices to determine their relative location in the store and can determine flow etc in the locations. Helps with marketing and so on.
Everything can be done, it is just a question of is it worth it, time and money.

This is why I like my Hikeit Throttle controller, it has a anti theft mode and prevents the accelerator from working without entering an unlock code!

That's not standard. You get that with the 8.4" screen. The 7 inch and former 5 inch screen have none of that. By default, Rubicons came with the 7 inch screen until model year 2022, so no tracking or gps without the upgrade. It still isn't standard across the board.

And, for those of us with android, no way to know if someone else hid an apple airtag on your jeep, since it's an apple thing.

You realize the average vehicle is now like 45k? Gladiators can be had for that price. Also I’d bet less than 25% of gladiators are garaged. I own a home but can’t have a garage. Additionally, many people just prefer to rent. You’re being ignorant by making claims about peoples income on a vehicle forum. It is absolutely not a requirement for people to have extra security measures for a vehicle. Insurance exists for a reason.

Plus after the 3~6 month trial period you have to pay to keep that service.. He did pay for it to get his unit tracked and thats the last we heard from him.

Probably nowhere to add one. Houses are pretty close together on the east coast, which is why so many still don't have garages, with half not having them. Land is a premium, so in many areas, even in the suburbs, houses are too close together to add a garage. My house has a garage, but it means I have no yard. It's either/or (or neither) on the east coast in a lot of areas.

It's a subscription once it runs out.
It doesn't always work - if there's not good cell service where it is, or if it's in a building, it may not work. I know this from experience.

Apple registering a check by a thief? So if I stole a car and there was an Apple AirTag in it, and I did a check using my phone, how would that check for the device be registered? All I have to do is turn on my BT and look for what's there. How would that be registered?

Someone suggested that a search for the AirTag could be registered. How? It's one-way. It's like looking at or for something. that something has no idea I'm looking for it or have found it.

Don't get out from home much? Haven't lived in some of the places some of us have lived in or experienced?
If you are land-locked, it's possible there's no space.
Building a garage is not cheap - and the permits and so on.......... and in some places there are rules and agreements as to the number, size, purpose, and so on for any structure.
Interesting, in our county, if your home was on a low spot on your property, it's possible you couldn't build a garage as "no structure can stand above the height of the house" or however it's worded. I wanted a 2 story shop - I was lucky in that our house was on the high spot on our land, my shop area was on a lower spot. Had that been reversed, I might not have a shop or garage at all. Some neighborhoods have covenants. The house or any other structure must sit back xx feet from the street, things like that.
I lived in a neighborhood where the lots were small, the house occupied almost the width of the lot, and any garage had to be behind the house because there was no room to build next to or onto the house.
If you don't have a garage, and don't have a driveway, that also requires a permit, permission to access the street, cut into the curb, and other fun stuff.
And then there are indeed areas where neighbors or associations must approve anything you do - including a garden shed. In Ankeny, a garden shed wasn't cheap because it had to follow certain rules due to it being a high-risk for tornadoes town. Had to be concrete of certain spec, the building had to be tied down in certain ways, and other rules and that was for a garden shed.
