It's a subscription once it runs out.
It doesn't always work - if there's not good cell service where it is, or if it's in a building, it may not work. I know this from experience.

Again, what's that got to do with "registering" a check for the AT device?

I was responding to this quote -
>> Many thieves are now aware and check for them with their own device. Apple and Android could register these checks but so far does not....<<

Apple registering a check by a thief? So if I stole a car and there was an Apple AirTag in it, and I did a check using my phone, how would that check for the device be registered? All I have to do is turn on my BT and look for what's there. How would that be registered?

Someone suggested that a search for the AirTag could be registered. How? It's one-way. It's like looking at or for something. that something has no idea I'm looking for it or have found it.
How can you register a search?
As in Android/Apple logs when you bt scan and find an airtag, this data is stored (as is when you scan and find your tv or speaker even if it is only stored im shortterm memory in order to display it to screen) and could easily be logged/uploaded. But obviously they don't do it. It would be in their users interest.

Also your smartphone/laptop gives off unique Bluetooth signals that can be identified and used to track your device's location... just saying. So while you (or an airtag) can't detect the scan in general terms you also emit a signal whenever your bt is enabled.

This, if you don't own or rent a garage, you are too poor to own a glad, just shows inexperience in the world. In Munich one pays €2000 for a months rent smallish apartment and between 200 and 600 for a space to park (only few are lockable), to buy anything starts at 300k for a fixer upper - 800k for an okish apartment, the space in the garage is in most places shared and entry limited to vehicles under 2m and will not fit the length or width of a glad or bus. Now you can imagine what buying a house or renting one costs, you have to move very far into nothing to just get reasonable prices, and then you commute for minimum 1.5h.
Also, building restrictions are a real pain and in most cases you still need to get approval from your neighbors even if your plan was approved in Berlin. Many areas have rules and houses need to be similar. Forget large garages. If you are lucky to live far enough out to do whatever, that is great, but that is seldom where you earn enough money to be able to afford a glad.

No. It's not in my best interest if my phone told anyone at all, anywhere, Google, Apple, anyone, of any device my phone has discovered. Airtag or otherwise. That's up to me to know and no one else. AirTags have been, and are used, for stalking and other not so good activities. Law enforcement says that if you discover that someone is tracking you using one of those devices, do nothing, don't go anywhere, contact law enforcement and have them meet you at a neutral location - don't go to the police station even. So if my wife was being tracked and I found a device in her stuff - I do not want my phone saying anything to anyone about it.

That's a gross violation of my privacy to have my phone report devices found. It's bad enough that locations are tracked.
I don't see my phone reporting things it finds to be in my own best interest. I'll decide that.
If I was still working in government and my phone reported any devices it found to anyone, I'm sure there'd be trouble.

How could uploading information about the BT devices I use or detect be in my own best interest?

This is why I like my Hikeit Throttle controller, it has a anti theft mode and prevents the accelerator from working without entering an unlock code!
If it is like the other and it simply connects in line with the original throttle pedal connector, all that's necessary is to unplug it and plug the factory connector back to the pedal control.

You'd have to at least hide the interface so they'd not instantly know what you have........... otherwise it's unplug and move on.

Your footprint is pretty findable and if you look at what is logged and related without your permission (thy make sure it is somewhere in their terms), your privacy is only given if you use for example a de-googled phone.

As to the being tracked part, my phone tells me automatically when a tag is traveling with me that is not registered by me.

Your phone is reporting... it is just a question on who has access to the data. What your phone is not logging your service provider logs.

For example: In Germany if you pirate (and your IP was not hidden) you get a nice fine of up to €10k in the Mail with in a month or two.

As to what is and is not in your interest is way too hard to pin down. Each individual has their needs. If everyone is doing the right thing (in general), surveillance (also don't like it, but also do not mind it as we are in some way or another surveilled daily) would not be an issue. Unless misused and then, well that is another cup of tea.

I think we are getting off-topic though, and it is a subject one can discuss at such tremendous length you might need a separate forum :). Back to the stealing of gladiators.

Think about it ... No land space many different factors can be involved here....
Can't have a garage or choose not to have one?

What is there to think about? I have a 40'X48' garage attached to my house.

Don't get out from home much? Haven't lived in some of the places some of us have lived in or experienced?
If you are land-locked, it's possible there's no space.
Building a garage is not cheap - and the permits and so on.......... and in some places there are rules and agreements as to the number, size, purpose, and so on for any structure.
Interesting, in our county, if your home was on a low spot on your property, it's possible you couldn't build a garage as "no structure can stand above the height of the house" or however it's worded. I wanted a 2 story shop - I was lucky in that our house was on the high spot on our land, my shop area was on a lower spot. Had that been reversed, I might not have a shop or garage at all. Some neighborhoods have covenants. The house or any other structure must sit back xx feet from the street, things like that.
I lived in a neighborhood where the lots were small, the house occupied almost the width of the lot, and any garage had to be behind the house because there was no room to build next to or onto the house.
If you don't have a garage, and don't have a driveway, that also requires a permit, permission to access the street, cut into the curb, and other fun stuff.
And then there are indeed areas where neighbors or associations must approve anything you do - including a garden shed. In Ankeny, a garden shed wasn't cheap because it had to follow certain rules due to it being a high-risk for tornadoes town. Had to be concrete of certain spec, the building had to be tied down in certain ways, and other rules and that was for a garden shed.
Sorry that I asked a question.

How do I know what can't have a garage means? You list a bunch of reasons and all I did was ask why they couldn't have a garage.

I'll run my questions by you before I post any more.

Trying to get us back on track...

Since our vehicles won't go into gear if the door is open couldn't we simply put a switch inline with the door trigger that fools the Jeep into thinking the drivers door is open and simply won't go into gear? And instead of having a on/off switch that can be forgotten (to engage) a latching relay could be used that once the vehicle is started and the switch is activated it won't reset until you shut off the Gladiator and exit the vehicle?

Of course removing the doors would create another hurdle but tricking the system to think the doors are on wouldn't be too tough.

Just a thought...

I did this to the Push To Start button. Thieves may be able to start the engine but will not drive away with it.

I lost my wallet day 3 from my galdiator. Here is the MO. The easily cut you horn through the front grill. So no horn will sound. If you look, the two wires are easily unplugged with a wire hook. Then he popped the passenger door lock. I was 20 miles away in my bike and didn't get the text soon enough to react. Good locks won't help with item theft but maybe they will help not having the whole jeep stolen.

I had no doors and no top on and my keys weren't in my normal place

I had left them in the key holder between the cup holders overnight

Done this a couple times, not stolen yet!

Before we get worried that Jeeps are easy to steal just think about statistics for a minute. You're far more likely to NOT get your Jeep stolen
