Hey hey, need some direction so I come to the best. Picked mine up, drove home, parked, turned back to admire and then my heart sank. After a few minutes of m’fing whoever detailed it I just began m’fing myself for being a dope with stars in his eyes. Don’t know how the hell I missed it. I left the lot so it’s my fault/problem plus I got it from out of state so no going back. Before I do anything to remedy it I’m looking to see if anyone had dealt with something like this. I’m hoping it’s not like when wax gets on the plastic door handles and ruins it. Any and all help would be appreciated. (Washed it and it’s still clear as day). Thanks in advance. Sincerely,

Oh man! I would be livid as well. Looks like they tried to use goof off or some other acetone base cleaner. I did that once to the black plastic mirror covers on a truck trying to get some paint overspray off. Dulled the plastic like in your picture. I agree that the products that "restore" black plastic is worth a try. Its an option that at least won't damage things further. Problem with those products is they eventually wear off.

Don't beat yourself up too much. I've bought cars before and later found damage on them that I am sure was there before and I missed it. I think by the time they run you through way the too long buying process, you just want to get out of there!

Wax on black trim can easily be removed. Wd-40 will take it right off. A magic eraser works too, but I would not use a magic eraser in that area, due to the abrasiveness. Goo gone works too.

I ruined my hardtop like 2 weeks after I got my jeep home, by running into the top of the garage. I had to adjust my garage to get the height of the JT to fit. It took the black paint off the fiberglass. I bedlined it, and all is well now, though.

I would try back to black or similar as suggested. If you decide to use a magic eraser try it in a spot you cannot see, I have read magic eraser is actually like very fine sandpaper and will change the finish on a painted or gel coated surface.

People Work?
Damp cloth with small amount of Dawn dishwashing detergent. Don't let it drip and run onto the painted surfaces.
Wipe again with damp with just water until there's no sudsing.
Dry with towel.
Then hit it with 303 or Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions (Walmart has it).
Do the whole top to keep it even.
You could even take the top off and do it.
That Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions stuff is awesome on all trim and plastics.

Yeah fuck that. Be like sending them a picture and asking WTF!?!?! :swear: ?
Edit: I found a small cut on my center console after I got home and texted the sales guy with a picture. Said we'll take care of it. Yeah it was out of state purchase too. Sent me a new one. Good luck.

Before you do ANYTHING id take it back and show them. You even have time stamped pictures to show when you found it.

See if the dealership can/will make it right before you try to yourself

Edit: miss read your first post. @Boostnu is spot on. Id call them and send pictures before doing anything. If its a warranty item any dealership should handle it.

I’d call the place you got it from and send them pictures of it. They may remedy it with a shop local to you instead of having you drive back.

Thanks everyone. Made me feel better about my situation. I work overnights so when I’m off my shift tomorrow going to put it in garage so it’s not hot and try the least invasive first (dawn dish soap), I have some 303 protectant too. Not familiar with back to black. For shits and giggles I’ll contact the dealer, maybe they can help in some way. And par for the course my better half noticed,”WTF, you just bought it…” not bad enough that there’s brown boxes accumulating in the garage from various aftermarket online retailers. I’ll post results in case someone needs to learn from my mistake. Thanks again for everyone’s time and input. Much appreciated.

Second vote for WD-40. That stuff does wonders to restore a plastic finish.
With any product, try a sample in a small area first…

Ive read that back to black runs off when it rains. Never used it so can’t verify, but the claim made me not use it. Fyi.
