Looks to be a legit one from when I served in the early/mid 90s, before we began painting them Desert Tan.
However, it also seems they just mounted as much crap on it as they could get their hands on.
That’s a Claymore mine, and I have NO IDEA why someone would mount that on top of a vehicle.

Yes it’s real. Zoom in on the wheels and you’ll see split rims and the mounting holes for the CTIS on the portal axle hubs. Drove quite a few of those here and over there.

The M18A1 Claymore Mine had no darkened lettering, especially on the front where it would be visible. Training inert models were either light blue or green with a blue stripe. It is a devastating Directional Anti Personal Mine we used quite frequently for ambush and perimeter purposes in Viet Nam. It had a variable efficiency / convex kill zone of about 50 meters. The ones we saw had a fixed top sight to point it in the correct direction. Some had one fuse well and others had two. There were two scissor legs to plant it vertically.

Pretty sure gross wt for that era Humvee is 7700lbs. So it isn't getting an exemption for over 14klbs.

Without seeing it in person, I’d have to guess it’s an M1043, which was manufactured prior to 1997 and should fall under 1 of the above posted exemptions.

Humvee’s aren’t very big compared to modern vehicles. I forget how small they are until you get in one. There is space but not very usable more like not comfortable. The hi back variant I had, think single cab pickup was used as an “overland” vehicle more than most of the Instagram people could dream off.

the jltv’s that have replaced the humvee are basically earthroamers. They have either a hydraulic or air bag system to lower them for teams to get in and out of. They are insane.
