400$ for batteries and 10 minutes of your time to swap them out. Super easy. Aux is underneath the main right there.. $1350 sounds like a life tax opportunity to learn how to do something like this yourself.. As with much of the repairs on jeep junk. Dealerships= STEALERSHIPS!!!

I don't get the dual battery deal on JL/JT's. My previous 2019 Cherokee with the 2.0 Turbo had ESS and used only 1 main battery.

Dealerships are not running a charity. Everybody is a socialist when having to pay out of pocket and a capitalist when selling.

Need to find my flame suit around here somewhere.......................
Who's asking for charity? I'm just pointing out the very common and well-known fact that some dealers have predatory pricing to intentionally gouge customers. Informing people to avoid a particularly bad example is not "socialism." If I demanded YOU pay for it through taxes because I think you can afford it, that is socialism. Shopping around for the best price is open-market capitalism at work. If customers listen to the bad experiences, they stop going there until the dealer changes their ways.

For the record, I can change a battery myself and don't need a life lesson, thank you very much. Just trying to warn people to stay away from this particular dealer. BTW - it's hard to play auto mechanic when you have to immediately go to work and need the vehicle back ASAP.

I had both batteries replaced at the dealership. I have the tow package with the AUX switches. The total was $782.50. I believe they use a slightly larger AUX battery with the factory AUX switches.
Yes, I have the same. I would have been cool with anything under $1K and just written it off as a $500 convenience fee for not having to hassle with it. I'd consider under $800 a good deal. $1,350 is a "because we can" price.

Sounds about right. I think in my old posts you can still see where a tech at this same place forgot to put the cap back on the coolant reservoir after an oil change causing it to overheat when boiled out and painted the entire engine and underside pink. Told they'll refill it free and good to go! I'm like, no... You're going to flush and refill, inspect everything for damage, do a compression check, and extend my warranty. No problems since, but man, what a hassle.
Oh, and also tried to charge for a tire rotation when I was clearly told they won't touch aftermarket wheels. "Gee, how did that happen! My bad."

OH! And one more! They started work on the wrong truck one time, and only stopped because they couldn't find the key to that guy's wheel locks and called me to ask where it was at - answer: "I DON'T HAVE WHEEL LOCKS! WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?"

Ugh, I need a new place to take this thing but still have prepaid services to do.
I think you need to give them a piece of your mind for shitty service. I've never been one to cus someone out over the phone, but this was the first time for me. Service writer said he was the service manager, lying POS. Called the branch manager after that, I left expletive laden voice mail. Then the real service manager called me, made excuses, rinse and repeated I was pretty pissed at the time.

I was happy with the price and did not have the time or feel comfortable enough to do it myself. The batteries came with a warranty as well. I felt it was a win. I have been very happy with this dealership. I have only had the Gladiator a little over 2 years. I bought it used.

Takes 10 minutes in the auto zone P-lot to change the batteries and all Batteries have a warranty. You are lucky to get it back ASAP. Any time I have tried to take my rig in, at multiple dealers, it's -we can schedule me in in three weeks and then we will need it for a week to find a spot to actually look at it and charge me the diagnostic fee, then keep it for another 2 weeks not working on it for a 1 hour repair.. Most recently when I lost glow plug 4 about two years ago that was the story. Took me 45 minutes this morning including wasting time posting about it here. No one will never sell me on a dealer being worth any penny they charge for work performed. Find a local and support them instead of Jeep S**T service. They know they are terrible, but could give a F**K cuz people will still give them 1300$ for 400$ worth of parts AND labor. Still think ya might need that lesson cuz ya got ripped off bad. I'll just round the math up and assume it took them 1/2 hour to change out your batteries. At 900$ of labor, you paid over 1800$ per hour for a 28$ tech to do that..Sorry, not sorry, that's the truth.

Let this be a lesson to everyone - don't trust Jeep dealers.
Glenn E. Thomas Jeep in Long Beach, CA just charged me the following to repair a non-op ESS system that left me stranded:

Fuse - $99
Battery x1 - $454
Battery x1 - $240
Push Pin x4 - $31.80
Rivet x4 - $51.20
Labor - $375

I needed it fixed and was in a hurry. Yes, I'm an impatient fool for agreeing to this. Regretting it now. Hey, @JeepCares, does this sound excessive to you?
At this point I feel like there's no other option but public shaming.
Hi @RiverMtnBeach,

We regret to learn about your vehicle concerns. Should you need extra support at the dealership in the future, please send our team a private message with your VIN.

The price was the price whether it was a scheduled walk in weeks ahead or as in your case, in a hurry and needed it fixed now. You did not get gouged for the sake of gouging.

It was perceived as gouging only because your situation did not allow you to price shop and get it done elsewhere or do it yourself. Same as having to call a plumber because the shitter is overflowing or the AC going out at home when it is 101 degrees outside and you need a repairman now. You pay the piper or deal with the consequences of doing without.

Not saying your wrong to be angry, but dealerships charging a premium is not a new thing but when you are pigeon holed, it is shit sandwich one has to eat sometimes.

The gasser aux battery isn't right under the main battery like it is in the diesel. You have to go in through the fender to get to it, it's not a quick parking lot job.

Especially when you can't get it to a parking lot. At the time also didn't want it at my house DOA with no clue what broke just to have to tow it again somewhere else. Once the dealer had it, I would have paid $290 to tell me what needed to be fixed, pay a tow truck to take it somewhere else ($xxx?), and then hope a $400 pair of batteries fixed it or start over again at another shop after sinking $700+ into this project. My only hope was fair pricing from the Jeep dealer, but nope - I got the "you're screwed" estimate because they know this game.

People keep saying the aux battery is labor intensive and yet you can access it from behind the front wheel on the gasser - youtube videos show it being done in short order. Don't have to pull the wheel or fully remove the fender liner.

When you have a dealer do things, especially in a rush, you pay their fees. It's about $180/hour here or something like that, if it's not under warranty. So if they spent 2 hours, there's $360 labor.

Some do it by simply turning the wheels, some lift it to drop the wheel down, some pull the fender flare, some don't, some pull the liner, some only pull the rear half of the liner down.............
