That's why my tow vehicles have automatics. It's awfully tough to back up a hill or maneuver a trailer how I need to at times and not abuse the clutch.but I get it if I feather the clutch when backing up a hill because it goes too fast taking my foot completely off.
I put a new clutch in my car at about 160,000 miles.
The current one has almost 40K on it.
I did slip the clutch (heard he engine wind as the tractor slowed) on my F20 when I was pulling more than it was rated for but hey, that was a 70 year old clutch.
Reverse gear ratios are just too high, IMO - I don't need 100 mph in reverse to get away from the bad guys - I'd pull a Mannix go as fast as possible in reverse, and flip the e-brake and spin around and slam it in a forward gear and take off (we used to have fun doing that in the college parking lot)
