Thought I would share the slight change in the owner's manual language for oil requirements in the 3.0 between the 2021 Owners Manual and the 2022. My reading of the 2022 version is more permissive, but still somewhat ambiguous. Likely meant to be.

SO it sounds like they would like you to use a MS 12991 plus API rated oil. But at the very least must use a 5W-40 API certified oil. MS12991 was not included in the must statement.

That would imply rotella T6 is now back in the game as it is API certified.

Legal being legal, one could argue that this change only applies to MY22 since it's only in writing for MY22 and not the MY21. Hopefully Jeep will issue a memo clarifying the MY21 position.

Makes sense after my 2nd Jeep Wave oil change said 9 qts of T6 on the paperwork after I picked it up.

Can you log in and get an updated version of your 2021 manual in PDF?
I had my original print copy, and my first PDF version, then got an updated 2020 version about a year ago.

If you can find it anywhere sure :) sold out up here.
In my area. I've seen Pennzoil in one store. Haven't seen the Quaker state.

Unless we can compares two exact same motors ( very unlikely). Run it for 100k miles, using different oils and then tears it down to inspects cam journals, crank thrust bearings, bores etc. It's hard to determine that if the more expensive oils are actually worth it. Having the correct type, amount in it and change it when called for it are more important imo.

I've been using the lower cost oils that meets specs on all my vehicles that i had owned without any issues, including weekend warriors turbocharged built.

Two 5qt jugs. 9qt goes in the Jeep and the rest goes in my vintage Honda motorcycles. Great for wet clutch. It's a win win for me.
