On Saturday, September 7th, my transmission failed with little warning. I heard a sound that I thought at first was the air condition duct work moving but then the Jeep slipped out of gear, revved to 6k RPM and then dropped down into 3rd gear. The check engine light came on and it wouldn't shift up to 4th. I tried putting it in manual but got a flashing "M1" and the manual shift wouldn't up or down shift. I pulled over and shut it off for a few minutes and then started it back up. I counted gears as it shifted and it did the same thing again from 3rd to 4th. The second time it did it, I got a "service transmission" warning. I limped it home in 3rd and discovered there that reverse was gone as well.

I dropped it off at my local dealer on Monday the 9th. I called them on Tuesday at the end of the day and was told that I would need a new transmission and that they had sent in a request for authorization to Stellantis. On Friday the 13th, after not hearing anything from them, I called the dealer again and was told that an entire transmission wasn't needed, but only the PTU. I was told it could take 5 days for authorization, 5 days to get the unit, and a day or two to get it installed. Today (September 17th), I contacted the dealer again and was told that they still had not received authorization. They suggested I call Stellantis customer support which I did. 20 minutes later, I was given a case number and was told that "Joshua" would be in contact with my to discuss this authorization with me. I asked when that would happen and was told "if not today, tomorrow."

So, I have been without my primary means of transportation for 10 days already. I paid an excessive amount of money for this vehicle, that has barely broke 11k miles. No one has any updates, no one has offered to assist with a replacement vehicle to drive, no one seems to have a sense of urgency, no one really seems too concerned.

Anyone had any luck with any other avenues of communication?

Unless you have Insurance or a Maintenance service plan that covers a loaner vehicle you will have to rent one.

As I understand it that once it hits 30 days, you can start a lemon law buyback.

Does that apply to 2nd owners or only original purchasers?

Google it and answered my own question. For those interested, the main requirements must be met for the lemon law to apply.

Report the problem within 18 months of initial ownership of the vehicle or before 18,000 total miles, whichever comes first.

Take your vehicle to an authorized dealer for repair.

Allow the dealer a reasonable number of attempts to repair. A reasonable number of attempts means your vehicle is subject to at least four repair attempts or is out of service due to repairs for at least 30 business days and the problem still exists.

Request a copy of the written repair order every time you take your car to the dealer for repair or examination.

Per your owner’s manual or vehicle warranty, you may be required to send written notice of your problem, along with copies of all repair orders to the manufacturer at the address identified in the owner’s manual or vehicle warranty.

If the manufacturer adopted an informal dispute procedure that has been certified by the attorney general, you must follow the procedure before you can file a lawsuit under the Lemon Law.

If notice is NOT required and the manufacturer does not have an informal dispute procedure, you may file a lawsuit without notifying the manufacturer of your claim.

The manufacturer has 30 days to accept return of your vehicle and, at your option, replace the vehicle or refund your money.

Commiserations and sorry to read your story of trans failure.

There’s a number of stories on here that relate t trans failure, it would seem etc.

Would be interesting to knowing the if any of German build zf 8spd used behind the diesels have failed yet.

Any owners of the ecodiesel equiped units suffer trans failures yet?

There are no issues with the EcoDiesel and ZF transmission. The highest mileage ZF transmission behind an EcoDiesel had approximately 800,000 miles. The failure was a solenoid failure, which is deep in the transmission. The owner/operator said it was cheaper to buy a used low mileage transmission from a salvage yard than to replace the solenoid.

Today is day 15 that my dealer has had my Jeep and as far as I know, Stellantis still hasn't even authorized the repair. I am trying to be patient but this is pretty pathetic.

There isn't much you can do, if you aren't happy with the dealer then you will need to have the jeep towed to a differant dealer. Before you do that, i suggest you go in and talk to the service manger.

Other then that, go to Hertz and rent the cheapest thing they got. Or buy the cheapest running car on craigslist and flip it when done.

It isn't a dealer problem. It is a Jeep/Stellantis problem.

Have you called Jeep customer service back to inquire for an update on your case number recently?

If you're getting no traction on the transmission component repair, have you asked if they would go ahead with the initial diagnosis and replace the entire unit instead?
