How much more of a pain in the arse is it to unstrap and set up with your tent opening tailbound like so?

I personally think it make it easier, because you have the tailgate to stand on to start the flipping process etc. Plus with a half rack or lower system, I feel the tent just fits better (you can prop open all the window without hitting the cab of your truck),

Wasn't too bad. Standing on the tires made it just as easy as opening off the side.

I just spent 2 weeks with my Tepui 3 person RTT. I believe the model is the Kukunam. Mine opens sideways. I can see some benefits to the rear opening but still feel the side opening is best for me. With my shorter rack it wouldn't matter my window or door that faces the cab is going to have problems with the poles hitting vehicle. I've got minimal options other than a taller rack. My tent overhangs on the rack in all directions per the question from the original post. Seems like that is par for the course from my research.

What is your closed dimensions?

The Roam Vagabond is 56" x 48". So if set to go off the side it takes the full length and width of the inside of the bed. By spinning it to open to the rear it only takes up part of the length of the bed. This allows me to slide it farther to the rear (away from my cab). But still does not hang past the sides of the truck width wise.

Looks like mine is 56x48x12 closed; 56x96x52 opened. so very similar dimensions.

It's a home made rack, I use it with an aftermarket roll up with no issues.

Zero. My tonneau rails have foam on the bottom that I cut to fit the brackets.
