Not sure there is a consensus at all! I'm wheeling with mine in a 5 wheel rotation pattern on good method wheels. The face of the spare rim is upward and compressed against the rubber so really no risk to the "pretty side" while up there. I also haven't yet done enough "hard" wheeling to ever scrape the inside of a rim while stowed either so my speculation is unless you are VERY hard core and dragging over lots of rocks, you'll be fine with a 5 wheel rotation. My opinion may change over time but that is how I see it now...So consensus is that if you go off-road even a little do not put a good wheel down there with any size tire?
THIS however, is a great idea if you are good with a 4 wheel rotation . Thanks for the share!Big thanks to Joel Nunez, Store Manager at @Discount Tire in Mesa, AZ, for all his help with my spare tire program I needed a spare tire/wheel that I could use rather than the factory spare that was nothing more than dead weight underneath the Gladiator.
Joel helped my by getting me a cost effective steel wheel that has the same bolt pattern and similar backspacing to my Fuel Zephyr wheels. And we went through the list of tires from this thread and I selected the 37x12.50R17 BFG All Terrain T/A KO2 tire which his team installed on the black steelie wheel.
I went to @Discount Tire and Joel and his team lowered my Falken Wildpeak factory spare, and attached the new spare wheel and tire and cranked it up under the Jeep Gladiator. It fit quite easily - more easily than I thought it would - and I was outta there after paying my bill.
The new spare before being put away. Hopefully this is the most sunlight this virgin tire and wheel will ever see...
Anyone want to buy my virgin Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3W, LT285/70R17 (33"), load range C on Jeep Gladiator spare wheel?

why is that? Just turn it good side up. I don’t see any issue with it, so what if the inner wheel lip gets some scars. If you’re wheeling it in places the spare gets eaten up then the other four are going to be rashed too.So consensus is that if you go off-road even a little do not put a good wheel down there with any size tire?

I am good with a 4 tire rotation as my tire won’t fit under the GladiatorTHIS however, is a great idea if you are good with a 4 wheel rotation . Thanks for the share!

the wheels used make some difference. Aftermarket track bars & how much overhang of material on the back of the hitch all come into play as well when were talking about that small of a difference. Also how much effort an individual makes to get it in there also. Can someone explain to me how one tire that’s 37” will fit but some other 36.8” ones won’t?
What is the measured diameter of the Milestar 37x12.50xR17? Online shows 36.8, but I'm wondering what actual PSI under a jeep would measure?Just to clarify, I'm running 37 x 12.5 x 17 Milestar Patagonia M/T's on my Rubicon, 1 1/2" leveling kit only, bone stock in the rear, no rubbing and still getting 17.5 MPG's @ 75 MPH on the highway!!! And yes the Milestar fits in stock spare location!
Is 37/12.5/XX smaller in diameter?By the way, this is a 37/13.50-20 Nitto Ridge Grappler.
Tight, but fits aired down.
Nope. The Diameter would be the same(ish).. The 12.50 means its narrower & wouldn't hang as far down.Is 37/12.5/XX smaller in diameter?
