I went with the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XL.

One of the reasons that I chose this wheel/tire combo is weight. The Rapid wheel is 26 lbs and the Discoverer XLT AT is a 68 lb tire. Plus I tow a camper - the Cooper Discoverer is designed for towing.

I really like my wheel and tire combo. Happy with their stance and performance. I have had these up to UWharrie and Brown Mtn. No issues offroad and behave very well on the road - even with the camper on the back. After 15k mi, wear has been great too. I always recommend buying the 'certificates' when buy the tires from @Discount Tire - great insurance policy!

And yes, my spare fits under the JT. I have been doing 5 tire rotations each rotation.

Is anyone running 37 inch Duratracs? I went through 2 sets on my old Jeep and had good luck with them.

I have 37 BFG AT KO’s and have run many different tires mentioned here. I love the BFG’s and they worked flawlessly on a recent 4000+ mile trip which included rocks and ledges roots and mud. I only used 4x4 and in 4 LO a couple of times for hill descents. The 2WD with Jeeps traction control and a rear limited slip worked in places I would have used my lockers in the JKU Rubicon I had before. Modern traction control IMOP is working so well I’ve reconsidered adding lockers for now. I don’t usually Rock Crawl but did some intermediate to difficult dry trails out west with no issues and in 2WD!
I do recommend getting the ā€œDā€ load range as they will get better wear mileage than a ā€œCā€ load range. On my Rubicon JKuHR I got 45,000 miles out of the ā€œCā€ load BFG AT’s. I have over 40,000 miles in the ā€œDā€ load and they still have close to half the tread. I’ve noticed this before on my 1 Ton diesels as well though max of 65,000 miles on ā€œEā€ load range BFG AT KO’s.

The Maxxis Razr A/Ts really impressed us. We weren't sure what to expect other than another A/T tire. But once we got them out on the trail, they surprised us with how good they hooked up in every scenario we tested them in.

Another tire to look at are the new Milestar Patagonia XTs. We're currently running some 35s through road and trail testing. We should have a video up on those in the next couple weeks.

Are you able to confirm that the Maxxis RZR ATs run small? I saw a review that says they measure out to be just 35" even though the size says 37. I can't stand shrinkflation like that, which is why I won't consider BFG.

Exactly. I’d rather buy expensive Mickey Thomson 35’s, which probably measure close to K02 37’s. Then you’re spending 35ā€ money. People really seem to like the ride of k02’s, but they’re small. I once accidentally complimented another gladiator owner on how nice his rig looked with the 35’s. They were k02 37’s. I felt bad about the error.

Maybe it's not a big deal to some people, but it certainly is to me. It's like saying my Jeep has a V8, but it's a V6. I don't understand why some manufacturers do that.

Agreed. My 37x12.5x17 Mickey Thomsons legitimately measure at 36.5, mounted, without the weight of the JT. With it on the ground they’re 36. K02’s advertise the same, but aren’t they actually under 35ā€? I think it’s crazy.

Edit, and my Mickey Thomsons are $10 cheaper per tire than K02 in the same size.

Just measured the 37s on our test mule the other day.

Maxxis Razr A/T 35-5/8" tall

In comparison, a new set of Cooper SSTs measured in at 36" tall:

Thank you! That's very helpful. I need/want a big a tire as I can afford, so the undersizing is a dealbreaker for me. It's a shame too, because I was sold on the tire. I'd pick those in a heartbeat if I had a JL. I'm going with Baja Boss's.

Two words: Baja Boss…MT or AT doesn’t matter they are both awesome I currently have the MTs.

The other opinion I have is that the BFGs are the most overrated tire ever. Literally the shittiest tire (by far) I have ever run in every condition in the PNW except bone dry roads or dirt. Not only that but they run tiny and yes size does matter ;-)

Cheers

I’ve had good luck with my General Grabber ATx. Looks good, true 37 and hooks up well.

I couldn’t agree more.
