Many have tried to get more HP out of the 3.6 with little success.

They just need to give us the twin turbo Maserati version with the Ferrari heads.

It's specific to the 4xe. Has the main drive motor and clutch up front where a torque converter would be.

I've never experienced a hard clunk going into any gear, or any weird or odd shifting, so I've got nothing to go by, no point of reference.
i will say that the transmission in our 23 4xe is probably the smoothest, quietest, best shifting transmission I've ever had. You can't tell when it shift - it's so subtle, if you don't have the display set for displaying the gear it's in, you might not know it shifted (with the engine running you can watch the tach, of course.)
Mine only bangs into gear if you don't let it idle down after a cold start. I noticed that the initial idle on the JT is a lot higher than either of my V8's before it comes down. It will settle at 1500-1300 RPM for several seconds before dipping down to a thousand and lower - and at that moment when it's a bit higher it's probably sloshing the converter around just enough to bang it into gear when you shift.

Anyway - my ZF 8 speed has been one of my favorite transmissions I've ever owned. A lot smoother than the 6L80E in my Camaro, which just seems to be a bit sloppy.

Never noticed any bang or clunk, but then I back into the garage, so when I start it, it goes into D to pull out. Even then, by the time I buckle in and decide to take off (after about 10 seconds tops), it's already down under 1300.
So I guess really, since I don't shift into R from a cold start, I can't actually compare.
It's also quiet enough, You have to watch the tach to see if it's above warm idle speeds. (or I've just lost enough hearing, it doesn't matter any more!?!)

He only uses the D to pull out and only after about 10 seconds when everything is warmed and lubed up inside so everything goes smooth.

I go in reverse, hard and dry.

Easier to back into the garage and have the plow ready - open door, and drive out plowing snow as I go. Plus, in the summer, it's easier to not have to back up a long driveway onto a street. A lot easier to back down a long hill into a garage and then drive out, watching for traffic as you exit the driveway.

This ZF trans is used in lots of luxury cars. Do you think they have this same clunk issue? No Bentley owner will put up with this trans issue. I can't believe that we are all told this is normal. Are we all just sheep? We all have to play games with the trans.
