I say that with affection as well. It doesn't particularly bother me if a vehicle carries on for ten years with face lifts and little improvements here and there. The parts become more available, the DIY and tech information in the community becomes more widespread, etc.

Probably one of many reasons I could put the ole lady in a brand new Durango right now for $36K. The costs have long been recouped.

Three rows, Pentastar powered, best transmission on the market, and dirt cheap by todays standards. Easy to work on (space under the hood, basic engine). The local dealer has a 5.7L Hemi one for $42K. A cloth seat Tahoe starts at $63K. Sure, not a one to one comparison, but what else can you get from GM - a front wheel drive Traverse? Id rather trust a Taylor Farms lettuce fart.

Didn't check the Ford offerings.

I’m somewhat inclined to think that JLR needs a ‘new’ V8 and US assembly to avoid tariff issues.

I’m somewhat inclined to think that JLR needs a ‘new’ V8 and US assembly to avoid tariff issues.

I'm aware of it professionally and personally. I'm an engineer, and my personal, professional insights are into programs being studied and quoted for launch.

So the JLR/Stellantis MOU is a bit esoteric for me to have direct insight into, like, until something is decided, no one is going to tell me. Once something is decided, it's an 18-24 month trip to production, which is why I can speak with confidence about a continuing lack of Hemi's in Chargers and Gladiators.

Now, to give my opinion, Stellantis has solid platforms, and unused US capacity. JLR has no window into NA manufacturing without them. So that's what they're trying to sort out, what can they do that makes sense for everyone.

What's more likely to me though, is Stellantis uses some of that capacity for Leapmotor.

But it all depends on how the USMCA shakes out, and the war in Iran.

Should the cost of a V8 Gladiator engine cost Stellantis 'that much' more than the 3.6? Three, four thousand, I get it. But much more than that, when we bend over we are getting sand in the Vasoline.

I say, come on Stellantis. With all of your access to all of these automotive brands you own, you can certainly provide a better, modern, turbo 4 or 6 with 300 HP that would make us sing your praise. Cut the BS.

the article I read a couple months ago said it was going to be engineered for the new ram/dodge products in 2028 and up. Supposedly it’s a high output smaller v8 that will meet the requirements of the modern regulations….the gladiator gets no love!
