Brand New Rubicon - noticed a brief grind/slip noise every time I start and get the Gladiator ups to 6-7 MPH. It's vey brief, but noticeable. Dealer said they couldn't verify, but after demonstrating it to them, they said it was the ABS checking itself. I have/had several cars with ABS and none of them ever did this. Do you all experience this as well? If not, maybe a bad ABS sensor?

Neither, the Rubicon has Tru-Lok front and rear. I was hoping someone with a Rubicon would do a little test and let me know if they have the same thing? My local dealership doesn't have a Rubicon on the lot right now for me to compare.

I think you are missing the point. Trying to figure out your power distribution and eliminate moving parts that might make a noise such as you are describing. Your locking differentials I doubt are the cause of any such weird noises as you can only really lock'em up in low range.

I get you...that's what I wanted the dealer to check - trans, diff, driveline etc. They said they couldn't verify the noise, but once I pointed it out and they heard the nose they said "oh, that's the ABS check". I'm not so sure I'm convinced. Guess I'll just have to wait until they get a Rubicon on the lot and test drive it to compare...

Their explanation makes no sense, why would the brake system check itself under acceleration? I've had problems with the ABS activating when it's not supposed to on a Chevy. Not fun, but only happened under braking

How I imagine the sound your describing makes me think of a torque converter issue I had with Ford Vans. Sort of sounded like rolling over rumble strips at a slow speed, deep vibrating sound not a sharp grind?

Audio might help.

UPDATE:

Was able to find a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon at a nearby dealership, and was able to arrange a test drive - it did the same exact thing. Guess my hyper-vigilance just picked up on something nobody else ever noticed. This dealership did not realize it made this noise either. Still don't know if it is indeed an "ABS Check", but whatever it is, it would appear to be normal.

Still interested to find out exactly what it is. If you want to test yours, or have an idea, please join in the conversation.

My Rubicon makes no such nois. Perhaps if you post a video of the sounds folks might be able to offer more.

I tried, but it's too subtle and quick to catch on video. Turn off stereo, AC, and fasten the seat belt (chimes at almost the same time), roll up windows etc. Start to drive, and you will hear it right at 6 MPH. It will make a quick blip, grind, slip, sound. Whatever it is, I'm not sure? Happens every time you start the engine. If you shut down and restart, it will do it again at 6 MPH. Again...I'm cursed with hyper-vigilance...sucks.

I have the same noise under the same circumstances on my 2021 JTR. Mine is just audible and sounds similar to the noise when I use Select Speed Control.

I hear this in 2H and 4H. Have not yet tried 4-Lo or Select Speed...

Would be great if anyone, maybe someone affiliated with Mopar, could verify?
