I have a Mojave Manual on 37x11.50r18 ridge grapplers and my ONLY regret is getting 4.88 installed instead of 5.13 or 5.38.

No lift, they do not rub at all. +30bs on the wheels.

You are helping me confirm my decision. I just ordered 5.13 Yukon gears and set up kits. I was back and forth between 4.88 and 5.13 but decided that I won’t be over geared at 5.13 with 2 overdrive gears. Can’t wait to get these and get back in the power band again.

If you are running 37s and a manual, 5.13 at a min is my experience.

Id like to drop from 4:10 to 4:56 or 4:88 but I have a long drive across Texas. Right now gets 20+mpg at 70. I suspect axle change would not affect that much and make 5/6 more useful.

OTOH could spend that money on Livernois update...

Great info in this thread. I’m thinking of trading in my Sport for a manual Mojave. I currently have a dead pedal that I know will not fit with the clutch pedal on the manual. Has anyone felt the need to install a dead pedal with the manual and if so, have you found one? I really didn’t like driving the auto without the dead pedal.

Nope. I have big feet, so a dead pedal would not be comfortable for me. I've never felt the desire for one, either in the JL or my JK.

I've had 5.13s ordered on temporarily out of stock for my re-gear in July. You got me thinking of changing the order to 5.38s. lol I'm running 38s (37.8")with the 6spd.

While 5.38s might put you in a better rpm band, you have to take into account the size of the pinion gear in a Dana 44. It gets smaller the numerically higher you go. If you do any serious offroading this will cause a lot of stress, especially if you're not easy on the skinny pedal... A 5.13 ratio already makes the pinion quite small. I'm not telling you not to do it, just giving some info you might not be thinking about.

Have you ever seen issues with a 4.88, or is that big enough not to worry about it?

Also, what make ring/pinions do you recommend? I'm inclined to stick with Dana/Spicer.

I just went with 5.13 Yukon gears. Waiting to get them installed. I was originally going to do Dana Spicer but would have to wait a while and Yukon got here in a week

I regretted my JL Sport Purchase.

In my opinion, the Sport is geared way too low, engine needs to be revved way too much with the V6, with long 3/4/5/6 gears.

It makes a terrible combination. I constantly had to downshift down to 3rd gear to maintain highway speeds on slight hills. Killing gas mileage and comfort. I live in an area with hills and grades. It was constant nonsense.

Maybe the Rubicon is different with the 4.10s. I traded to an Auto Willys JT and couldn't be happier.

I do like the Wrangler over the Gladiator better, but I wanted a bed for utility and camping.

Wrangler > Gladiator / offroad

Gladiator > Wrangler / All around utility.

There isn't any room for a dead pedal in the 6 speed. The clutch pedal is pretty close to the left side of the body.

I guess I just don't see the problem with downshifting to third. The automatic is downshifting and revving too. I started on high revving Hondas though, so maybe I'm just used to it. I love it.

It's not shifting near as much. It is also an 8 speed and geared far better for the transmission.

Driving an auto vs. manual is like driving two different vehicles entirely.

Jeep really screwed up. The manual makes the engine seem lazy and laggy. It's not true at all. It's geared all wrong from the transmission gearing to the diff.

It would be perfect if they had tighter gearing both on and offroad.

I actually prefer driving a manual vs. an auto on every other car I've ever driven.

I traded in my JL for the JT within two weeks of test driving an auto Rubi.
