I have had my new clutch for a few months but I’m just getting around to installing it. There has been a lot of discussions about the recall and Jeeps burning up so I thought I’d share. I’ll try and clean the surface there and see if the discoloration is contamination or heat.

So the holes on the Centerforce flywheel don’t line up with the holes on the crankshaft. I put the old flywheel over the Centerforce one you can see a couple of them don’t line up. Extreme terrain is sending me a new kit. Hopefully this was just a one off

I did but they didn’t seem to line up. But I went and checked again and instead of back to back I put it on top. Yep they eventually line up only one way. I feel dumb. I’ll have to cancel my exchange with extreme terrain. But hey it fit!

Once you clean up the old clutch. Look for cracks in the surfaces.

Here’s some more pics of the old one. I cleaned the surfaces with acetone and the spots were still there. Didn’t see any cracks. We have a magnaflux machine at work. Maybe I’ll try that

Was it painful to put the new clutch in? Garage floor or on a lift?

Really the only pain was getting the bolts at the top of the transmission. Can’t really reach them and the a-holes put little rubber caps over them. Like there’s the bolt, then the bracket for the fuel line, then a nut to hold that on, and finally the rubber cap. Rest of the process was pretty straight forward. At least until I had trouble figuring out it wasn’t symmetrical. Oh and I have the Jeep on jack stands in the garage. Just enough room for me to sit cross legged behind the engine.

The singel alignment hole with basically no visual change is very annoying and gets me every time. I'll include one I just did at 40k miles below. The center friction disc material rotated on the carrier plate and the rivets dug into the pressure plate. these things are straight crap IMO. (This one also managed to eat some insulation somehow)

Wow yours was toast. Looks like you had the same discoloration. Mine still had some life in the clutch discs.
