The clutch in the JK is near identical in design of the aftermarket clutches. Single disc, single mass flywheel. Yes the twin disc design was originally created to create more clamping force on a smaller area compared to a traditional design, but Jeep used that improvement as a way of scaling it down to make a lighter and "better" for their metrics and desires or things like NVH and efficiency. The big thing is I think they flew too close to the sun on grab force to the vehicle output.
It actually makes sense. Hire a six sigma black belt to work on metrics for the short term gain.
Whats your feel on the reverse gearing in the 6mt between the JL and JT?

How many miles caused that?
40k, guy was having issues at 30k(we where trying to hold off for the recall but it became basically undrivable. Couldn't stall the vehicle it was slipping so bad)

Personally, no difference. Im almost positive the transmission is identical with 0 difference besides part numbers because Chrysler is silly lol. But the JT likes to want to stall ever ao slightly more, only teally when compared to a 2 door, but I think that simply boils down to weight difference causing larger inertia delta to take off

I have had my new clutch for a few months but I’m just getting around to installing it. There has been a lot of discussions about the recall and Jeeps burning up so I thought I’d share. I’ll try and clean the surface there and see if the discoloration is contamination or heat.

I went to the Jeep dealer for the tailgate recall, and my service guy showed me a JTR that had a blown clutch and was partly burned. Jeep has told them there is no resolution, and he told me to go aftermarket. It isn't worth waiting until you Jeep burns up. But that's the only one I've heard of in New Mexico.

The insulation you thought it ate somehow is what's called a rag clutch disk shredding and coming apart, in the old days was some asbestos fibers included, now mostly kevlar. they shredded a lot and stunk to high heaven on h/d trucks until they went to ceramic button clutches. Still twin disk though. The '46 willys cj2a I had in the late 70's had a "feather touch" ceramic clutch disk, will take more heat, slip less and last longer if that option is available.
