I really wish i could just supply the parts and have someone else do the labor for the recall. I know that's not how it works but a guy can dream right? I could do the swap myself I just dont' want to put the time in.

Jeep should just buy clutches from center force or someone and just get the recall behind them. They tried something fancy and complicated and it didn't work. Accept it, admit defeat, and move on.

I replaced mine with the centerforce clutch and high inertia flywheel and have been happy since. It's a cute design of the original clutch. I mean a twin disc should be stronger.... Is it the same clutch that's used in the JKs? Likewise for the MT? If so how wasn't this an issue before and why is the reverse geared so high in the MT?

Did you rotate it to each hole to make sure? I know some flywheel hole spacing is not symmetrical so it only mounts one exact position.
Yeah you can definitely see the spacing between the holes is different... good call.?

Nice job on getting this done on the ground! If I do it myself, it'll be on the ground.

That factory flywheel had some pretty bad hot spots.

I have had my new clutch for a few months but I’m just getting around to installing it. There has been a lot of discussions about the recall and Jeeps burning up so I thought I’d share. I’ll try and clean the surface there and see if the discoloration is contamination or heat.

Work/Call local dealers around, some most certainly could be perfectly fine with this as long as you understand there's not gonna be a labor or parts warranty on the job and they might charge you a small amount extra in labor

The clutch in the JK is near identical in design of the aftermarket clutches. Single disc, single mass flywheel. Yes the twin disc design was originally created to create more clamping force on a smaller area compared to a traditional design, but Jeep used that improvement as a way of scaling it down to make a lighter and "better" for their metrics and desires or things like NVH and efficiency. The big thing is I think they flew too close to the sun on grab force to the vehicle output.

The singel alignment hole with basically no visual change is very annoying and gets me every time. I'll include one I just did at 40k miles below. The center friction disc material rotated on the carrier plate and the rivets dug into the pressure plate. these things are straight crap IMO. (This one also managed to eat some insulation somehow)

For those curious of doing this themselves. I am doing the work myself in my garage. I have it on the axles on jack stands. Only reason the wheels are off is that after I’m done with the clutch I’m putting 5.13’s in. I’m not in a hurry. I have a beater that I drive to work. So I’m taking my time and learning along the way.

here’s the inside of the bell housing. Throw out bearing is a bit rusty but the kit came with a new one. I’m gonna take them to work tomorrow and clean the parts up before sticking them back in there
