I guess I'll see the quality in a few days.

It's always good to get first-hand reports on some of these things. Of course the real tell is backing over a boulder that would normally rip the receiver off and finding the skid saved the hitch and barely ended up with a scratch.

Just arrived. Well packaged. Sticker on box says made in China.

Looks and feels beefy. It's heavier than I expected. Not the prettiest welds, but looks like it'll hold up as well as a $125 skid. I can report now after my Moab trip next month.

No. The Amazon listing says it's from China.

Body Armour welds look better, but the other looks fine, so perhaps not made in same factory. Amazes me that they are not made at same place.
Me… I spend too much, got a Warfab Sheridan with shackle attachment point, for like twice the cost, then beings I can’t leave well enough alone, cut an inch off each side and cut the angled part to have a welder weld it so it is only3/8” from bottom of hitch to bottom of skid, most are pretty far down like 1.5” to 2”. I think any hitch skid is a good idea as long as it is as wide as the trailer hitch chain plate.
Only negative I can think of with those skids and a lot of others is when using it as a attachment point for a strap there are square edges for the strap to rub on and possibly wear there.
My skid just got put on and no scratches yet cause I’m a poser, but am going to Rausch Creek in March……Jack

What CAN happen - and what happened to the inventor of the "Shop Task" lathe/mill -
He came up with his machine, great details, and decided to have the right price point for the home user, he'd have it made in China. Success - they came out nicely and sales were good for a year or two. Then he started seeing something concerning - he found his same machines panted a different color and with different labels and brand name selling at Harbor Freight and other stores - cheaper.
He contracted with a factory fully Chinese owned and operated. His designed were copied and they started making them for themselves and selling to outlets in the U.S. cheaper.
He made some changes and ended up buying and opening his own factory in China where he had more control and was able to safeguard his plans.

MAYBE - similar happened with this skid...... they said "hey, we can do this!"

I second the hitch lock, and I put a piece of rubber pinched between skid and hitch, had to push hard on skid to compress it and pin and hitch don’t rattle at all, let’s get out there and drag our asses on some rocks!……Jack

Run a couple small beads on 2 sides of the piece going into the receiver, file or grind things down flat again, repaint it, no more rattle. Or, a large piece of heat-shrink.....

I was looking at getting the Warfab but they offer it in a short and a standard. Which do you have? What is the actual difference?

The short, looks to be 3-4”shorter, and just covers the hitch but not at the front, I am more worried about the rear angle then the front which is about even with the tire. I do like the way the shackle attachment point is about 1/2” away from bumper and can’t hit it, the whole thing does not stick out too far. I did cut angles on the rear up top edge, and did the “walk into it test”, the angle makes a huge difference pushes your leg away, I have not bumped it yet as it is in so close not like a hitch…….Jack
