8.4" Does Not Recognize All Files on USB

I'll try and answer a couple of these questions at once. I was doing it while working from home so I tried a total of 3x. First attempt was with an old 8GB stick formatted NTFS - and the stick was bad lol.
Second was with another old 8GB stick and I formatted Fat32. Mix of .flac / .mp3. No folders just dumped to the root of the drive. All the files are tagged and have the artwork, artist, ... embedded in them. I did not want to wait long for any sorting by Uconnect so I used a small number of songs, 3 artists, 6 albums. 3rd attempt was with the same music criteria but a new 28GB stick. No dice.

Only waited about 60 seconds because I was shown only a list of the songs in some facockta order that UConnect created. It's a concept that works really well in all my other vehicles without the hoops and as I mentioned I can download the same music to my phone for listening when out of cell range. I don't need it but as a long time tech nerd I was interested in how this system worked. Or, in my case, didn't

There is zero doubt that UConnect is archaic in it's implementation of music via USB flash drive. I mean come on - it's not 2001.....

What program did you use to reformat it into FAT32?

I think it's an Amazon Sandisk Cruzer? Definitely formatted FAT32. I did try NTFS once but it was on a bad drive. Never remember why I didn't try it again?.

Will be on a long drive today and most of it will be outside cell range so I'll try it again. Not a deal breaker for me I was just curious.

I just used Windows. Right click the Drive in File Explorer and choose Format. It should present you with different options for NTFS, FAT32, etc. NTFS worked fine for me. FAT32 can't go beyond a certain drive size (I think 32 GB).

I just helped my wife create a itunes library flash drive for her Grand Cherokee L using a 256gb Sandisk 3.0 Flash Drive (granted she only had about 60gb of music - currently).

I appreciate everyone's help, especially you @Sigz, but it really isn't that important because I can download all music from my streaming service but ... I am going to buy a new flash drive. My present drive is USB3 so I figured it was current enough for Uconnect?

I hold a degree in computer science and spent my early years as a programmer so I am vaguely familiar with a lot of these processes. Once I have a new drive in hand I will try again

My next attempt will be today on company time (I work from home) and this attempt will feature FAT32, format will be ONLY MP3, with a max of 3 maybe 4 albums. I hate dominating threads with my failures

I have the 8.4" audio system and I plug in a 64 GB USB drive into either USB1 or USB2 (I tried USB3 as well). It seems that the audio system only sees about half of the 3900 songs that are on the drive. I browse through the files and about half of the folders are missing (compared to what I can see with Windows). I've even tried reformatting the drive to 32 GB with FAT32 and I still have the same problem. Is there some limitation with UConnect that only allows a certain number of files?

On a separate, but possibly related issue, the audio system doesn't always show the song's album art, though I'm certain that those hidden files are also copied to the USB.

Has anyone had this issue?

Yes I have. In fact my whole radio has been replaced four times in less than three years. I was running a 64G thumb drive with about 24G of music with no issues until one day the system wigged out, which it did at least once a week, while I was listening to music from the thumb drive. Got the new radio and it still wouldn't work. So at the suggestion of the dealership, I got to 32G drives and split my music between them and they both work, but still there are some albums that won't play unless I select them directly.
