Set off on our first extended, multi stop, camping trip from South Florida with the Gladiator with stops in Dahlonega in Ga, Bryson City in NC, and finally a Airbnb in Asheville, NC to comfortably finish off the trip.

Nine days total, exploring areas I've quickly seen on Mountain Bike trips, but wanted to take a slower look at with the family. Started off in Amicalola Falls with a scenic camp and the falls nearby. The rainy first day was spent hanging around town in Dahlonega checking out the local sights. Also adventured over to Springer Mountain for the start of the Appalachian trail. Our next leg took us to Bryson City at a surprisingly beautiful camp right on a creek. So calm even groups of large Swallowtail butterflies would hang out right near the edge to drink. Visited Fontana Dam and the appropriately named Road to Nowhere Tunnel nearby. After five nights of tent camping we were ready for a proper bed, so ended up in Asheville for a few nights. the Biltmore is always great to see, and also took the Gladiator on the Blue Ridge up to Mt. Mitchell. I'd suffered up these roads on bike, so was nice to take an easier drive up to the top! Previous stops to Asheville were quick one nighters, but was nice to explore the area and take in the sights.

Fun trip overall. The mix of camping and housing worked out great. The (recently) new truck and gear performed great. Definitely going to look into upgrading shocks as factory Rubicon shocks are quite bouncy when loaded as is well documented. No heavy offroading (I had some tentatively planned) but Google kept taking us on back gravel roads to make it in interesting. Anyone wondering about the Gazelle Tent, they're awesome. second time using it. Goes Up and down really fast, and tough as nails. Slept through first night pretty nasty rain and winds with no issues. Did my best "Overlander" impression by brewing up some espresso on the side of the road. That's how it's done right???? Here are some of the pics. I'll have these memories for a lifetime.

Looks like a great trip! I grew up in the NC mountains and love that area. How was the tent in the rain? The fly doesn't look like it extends far enough to cover the windows completely.

Flawless in the rain. The top corners of the windows are covered by the fly so you can still crack the windows open towards the top so the rain coming off the fly won't come in. They actually open from the inside and are connected at the bottom of the window, so if some water gets through the mesh it will collect at the bottom and go back out. You might still get some sideways wind rain coming in, but if just a ventilation crack then won't be much. Also the ceiling is completely mesh so you still get plenty of ventilation without needing to open the windows on a cold night, like we had

Man that looks beautiful.... You guys need to share some of the water though! Already dry as a bone here on the West Coast.

Your trip report has motivated me to do the almost same route as you this fall. I have been to Dahlonega twice, but never as a civilian. I will finally get to relax and see the sights. Maybe make my next stop Murphy. When Tellico was open I used to go to Murphy 2x year and never had time to visit the town much. Now you got me searching for a better tent. From one Florida boy to another, thank you for this post.

Awesome to hear. I only touched the Tip of the iceberg in Dahlonega. There's Georgia Traverse, Beasley Knob (Jeeb Badge Trail) and Iron Mountain park all near by to name a few! I don't know much about Murphy, but I know it's out West and there's plenty to do there. I can't compliment this Gazelle tent enough. Admittedly I've never had an RTT, but other than the large packing size of the T4, this thing is super easy to use and rugged as hell. If you want something smaller, the T3 is advertised as good for two people and packed dimensions actually fit in our bed. The value and performance of tent for the price is great. Actually went out this weekend again to Ocala for a mountain bike trip. Went in the Subaru this time and was a breeze to just chuck the tent in the trunk with camping and bike gear and be setup and ready to ride in no time. Either way, hope your adventure turns out great!

You may have already said and I missed it, but is that tonneau cover? Looks like it works with your rack?

Yeah it’s the Bestop soft roll up. Just need to tweak the weather stripping and works flawlessly.
