Does anyone burn 93 Octane in their Mojave? If so, any upside?

Unless specified otherwise, all the gladiators use the same 3.6L Pentastar. One of the benefits of this powertrain is that it is low stressed and low compression (for ostensible reliability), and so does not benefit whatsoever from premium fuel. The only exception would be if you were experiencing knock, which would be more likely while towing a heavy load in high temperatures and symptomatic of another issue.

So long as you are using a top tier brand with a good additive package, save yourself the money and buy regular.

Just remember octane is a stability rating. Higher octane is reflects a more stable predictable controlled ignition. Most useful for when higher compression engines need the finer tuned control of detonation. Generally speaking- It does not make more energy per unit, therefore no more mpg or power (some engines will detune without it however….. as in high compression turbo motors ect)
Is it simply a more stable version of the same fuel- more resistant to pre ignition.

No reason to run higher octane unless you've done something to change your compression ratio. That's what octane ratings really mean, their ability to resist pre-detonation on compression. It doesn't yield anything special in terms of extra energy or cleaning potential or anything like that.

I bounce between 89 and 93.......the only time I ran 87 got a CEL with a misfire.......no problems since then

Using a Tier 1 gasoline. .meaning detergent package like Chevron...is all that matters. Use a Tier 1 87 octane.

Not sure who qualifies these days....always Chevron...possibly Shell, 76, Texaco. Google it.

Why would it matter if it was a Mojave or a Sport or a Rubicon or an Overland?

Top Tier fuel - regardless of octane.

Octane resists self-ignition. Basically the same amount of energy or BTUs per gallon.
It's the molecular structure - the strings of molecules.
It simply resists self-ignition.

From MotorTrend:
....... In engines designed for standard unleaded fuel, efficiency and performance is optimized for 87 octane and could actually perform worse with higher-octane fuel........

91 is recommended for the turbo-charged 2.0 in Wranglers in hot weather or when towing. HEAT can cause detonation which higher octane fuel resists.
otherwise even for the 2.0, 87 is recommended.

Yeah, some are easy to guess, some I expected to be are not. One I wish was, isn't but it's still good gas we've run in everything for decades.

Anyway, like you said -

I can’t afford to run anything but 87. I usually run Exxon, Chevron, or Shell for whatever that is worth.

Shoot yeah run 93 octane and combined it up with double platinum spark plugs for optimum performance. While your at it, go ahead and toss on a cold air intake and straight pipe it so you will get maximum air flow and excellent mpg gains. That's what I would do or just save your money and do what the manual tells you do and what FCA recommends for the JT. I mean if you were supposed to run 93 I would think FCA engineers would of thought to put in the recommendations since they are the ones paid to design these things. Just my thoughts on it.

As stated before, and I guess I'll reiterate: Higher octane is for engines running higher compression. High compression engines, such as those artificially charged (turbo, or super), creates a condition where the gas can detonate prior receiving a spark. This causes knocking.

There's no benefit to running higher octane in a vehicle that isn't designed to use it.
