I personally split the difference and run 89 just cause I'm torn on 87 vs 91.
With the miss fire issues that have come up on this forum I thought a little more octane couldn't hurt. Don't want the same issues. If it doesn't help it certainly isn't hurting. Maybe the wallet a little but I'm ok with the added cost. This Jeep is my baby and want to do anything that might keep it running without issues.

Just makes your wallet lighter.

there could be a situation when under heavy load in midst of summer you could experience engine knock. In this case you would benefit from mid-grade gas.

99% of the time the cheap stuff is all you need.
First reply took care of it. Well done.

Nope, didn't read the first 7 pages.
With 91 octane, towing my 16' camper, I get 1+ mpg better and the truck is happier 6 mph faster. Yes, it moves the sweet spot. To me that is well worth it.
I find that in general it makes a 1 - 1.5 mpg difference with the higher octane unloaded.

Yep... we might as well drag out an old oil thread and get everyone riled up over that all over again too. LOL
Or the key fob...

Lol. blame the website. It showed up as a new thread for me. Didn’t look at the dates.
Do not worry about it. People would have bitched if you started a new thread on the same subject. No winning around here.

I mean I'd agree with you if the post that awoke this zombie had some substance to it...but alas it was just a "me too" post...

Only because the same discussion/argument goes 'round and 'round ad nauseum on literally every ICE vehicle forum on the internet. The bottom line is use the fuel that the engineers who designed the engine specify in the owners manual and stop worrying about it.

I get the angst but what can you really do about it? It is akin to being 6 person deep in line at the grocery store checkout and Grandpa up front wants to take 5 minutes to write a check out because debit/credit cards are the devil. You mumble some expletive under your breath but you still have to deal with it regardless.

Nah, that would make sense because it's all timely. This would be more like grandpa coming back 2 years later to get his receipt.

That's funny.

Still a self licking ice cream cone with everybody coming back to bitch about it like we are rather than just ignore it and let it die.
