Well it doesn't happen often, but I'm just hoping to get some decent gas from a non top tier place. I'd much rather get 87 from Chevron or Mobile than 93 from Bob's gas in the middle of nowhere.
Bob's in BFE might be selling Mobile, Marathon, unbranded, or something else. They might exclusively sell Marathon or they might sell a mix of Marathon/unbranded/whatever.

Sometimes you'll even have a branded station that sneaks in unbranded loads every now and then because unbranded gas is cheaper.

Gas brand means nothing to me. It's all the same as far as I'm concerned.

Because many people think there is something very special with a Majave.
My Mojave is exactly as slow as any other Gladiator. Ha.

Why do the Bronco engine choices state different horsepower/torque for regular and premium gas? Does it have two different tuned settings that are set or detected based on gas?

I never thought premium did anything helpful, but seeing that on the Ford site threw me off.

Detergent package is a real thing brah. Techron...Chevron's branded package, is amazing stuff. Plenty of independent testing and real science behind it.

Thus, top tier. It's got minimum specs for such things the others just don't necessarily have. They may - but there's nothing saying they will or do.

You won't see unmarked tankers at a QT or similar.

Because as turbocharged engines, the tune will keep boost high and ignition advanced until it detects knock. Then it will pull boost and timing until it can add it back in without knock.

In short, when you run regular, you get less boost or (and?) ignition advance than when you run premium.

I work in the industry. I'm speaking about what brand goes in the tanks and out the pumps. Not debating detergents, just saying you may not be getting what you think. Branded gas isn't always the brand it says it is, unbranded station sometimes sell branded gas.

The same haulers that carry branded fuel also carry unbranded fuel. Most stations use several different haulers. Or they use their own haulers which can have stickers on the trucks and carry any brand or unbranded fuel.

Branded gas isn't always
Are you saying if I go to Chevron and the pump says "Chevron Regular with Techron" there is a chance I am not getting this? This could easily be a massive lawsuit. It's fraud.

Yes. Chevron isn't going to stations sticking tanks and taking samples. There is no enforcement of what the station owner puts in the tank.

It wouldn't be a massive lawsuit because it would be against an individual franchisee.

Just google top-tier gas for a list of stations that carry it. A nationwide study in 2014 identified those gasoline mixtures with additives that exceeded normal industry standards. Many major publications agree that octane ratings are pretty moot when using TT gasoline, unless you're running it in a super-high-performance vehicle. Costco has TT gas and it's all I've run in my JTR since day 1.

The guys who came up with this “premium“ label for high octane fuel were geniuses. People have been throwing money away ever since to get it. Most really believing it to be some magical fluid that gives them more power, more mileage, makes their vehicles run “better” - whatever that means.

Hell why not: It makes your teeth whiter, makes you irresistible to women, and makes your manhood swell up to 25% bigger too. ?

As has been said a million times already. It just resists preignition. Basically it takes more compression to make it burn. Doesn’t do a damn thing for you except lighten your wallet unless your vehicle is high compression and by design requires it.

But if the “premium” label makes you think it does, then by all means, spend it how you Ike. . .
