I just ordered a rubi diesel so have been trying to learn what I can about this engine and issues.
I don't know a lot about these post 2006 diesel control systems, but Im thinking what Ide be very interested in is a LIMP MODE hack.
If the ERG throws a code, or the DEF pump has a problem it won't be long before the computer puts the truck into limp mode.

A question for all you experts out there. Is the truck going into limp mode a federal mandate? Or is it just something the manufacturer has decided to do?

I've never had a gas engine go into limp mode because the emission system threw a code, why does the diesel do this?

I don't really think I have an issue with the emission system on these things, I just wish they wouldn't go into limp mode at the slightest problem.

No one has come up with anything yet.

The EPA put out a set of guide lines and regulations. It's up to the manufacturers to determine have to implement them. That's how we got limp mode. The 2027 regulations is supposed to reduce the effects of limp mode.

Gas engines do go into limp mode too.

Well, nobody elect the people working at the EPA as far as I know, but it’s federal organization and they make those regulations and directives

Believe it's been posted a few times there is a fix just not publicly announced. Hence the last run announcement and orders starting to be delivered.

I was headed to CO and got "exhaust system see dealer" and "stability" warnings then the JT wouldn't run more than 60 mph. I have a Taser installed. I was able to clear these and finish my trip. Some on the forum don't care for the Taser but it saved my hide and my trip.

The problem with hacking and bypassing "limp mode" - unless you know the exact reason, aren't you risking real damage down the line? I can see for certain emissions things wanting to continue the drive, but there are times, like when my Ford went into limp mode, it was risking transmission damage by continuing.

LOL - but any decent code reader or software can do that......... ;)
it is one solid reason to have something in there ready to go at the drop of a hat.
I open JSCAN on my phone and check and clear codes, and move on. So yours is handier.

The diesel engine has been out long enough that if a limp mode bypass was available we would all know about it. With the diesel being discontinued, don't expect much more aftermarket development.

unless you know some inside knowledge, there is no fix....I just talked to Jeep again just over a week ago, no fix exists, and no timeline for when my brand new JTRD sitting on the lot is going to be ready for me to pick it up, but I still visit it from time to time.
