My first how-to, I hope you find it helpful. I realize this how-to only applies to a select few, but I thought it might inspire others.
I wanted to add additional lighting to the rear of my Gladiator. The goal was to have additional lights when backing up off-road or to enhance my Oracle flush mounts when needed. I had been giving this a lot of thought and searching for the perfect lights. I wanted surface mount lights and everything I found were flush mount and required cutting holes in my bumper. Not something I really wanted to do. Also, In my case, I don't have rear backup sensors in my bumper (my Rubicon didn't come with that option) and I have an aftermarket bumper (HardRock 4x4). Since I have 4 holes that are not being used in the bumper, I decided to use these.
I bought 2 sets of these from Harbor Freight:
I know they are not that bright, but using 4 of them adds almost 1300 Lumens to the rear of the Gladiator. The plus is they are surface mount. Most other solutions I found needed big holes cut into the bumper (which I didn't want to do).
To mount these i bought some 1/8" rubber sheet and cut it to put a layer between the lights and the bumper. To make them easier to replace, I purchased some automotive type connectors and soldered them to each light and finished them off with some wire split loom and cloth tape:
I created a similar wire setup for behind the bumper and ran wires to my cab switches in more split loom to protect them. I think they look good:
I promise the lights are mounted level, the picture makes them look a little crooked. They provide a pretty good amount of light:
Lights off
Lights on (no reverse lights)
Let me know if you have any questions.
