Anyone used the 831 relocation bracket for the Rubicon camera..hows the perspective up vs doing a MULE EXPEDITION OUTFITTERS lower mounted one.

@caryt

I use the 813 lower filler panel and mounted the camera in there:

I like the clean look and I didn't want to add more complex cable routing for the mount above the door.

Regarding the Mule bracket – I had one that didn't fit the camera. They had received a bad batch and I got one of these. The above might not be angled the same and I have turned off the guidelines, but it makes the whole install much, much cleaner and the angle of view is totally workable.

I have the Mule on mine and my father has the 813 upper on his. Personally, unless you are going to mount gear on the back of the door, go with the 813 upper bracket. The view angle is so much better and the lens stays cleaner. Mine (Mule) mounted low seems to get dirty pretty fast and is unusable if raining because the water blurs the vision.

Same happens on the 813 filler mount. The lens does get wet and dirty. Haven't had issues with it though.

The view is different given that one comes from above the door. There are advantages with that, like mentioned above. The view from the lower position is just different.

The lens is really wide angle, so it's not that much of a problem mounting it straight or angled down, it's a matter whether the guidelines in the display are acurate or not. The Mule bracket aims to make these still acurate, the 813 above door I have no experience with, the 813 filler panel mounts the camera straight back, which gives a different view from OEM. I have turned of the lines in the display (just a setting in the infotainment center) and this works for me and my wife. We only use the camera for a quick glance and then navigate with the mirrors anyways.

I should have mentioned that I have mine set up to kick on when the turn signals are on (via a TAZER). When driving on the freeway in the wet (all the time up here in Seattle) the road spray pretty much makes it useless. Obviously, on the trail, you won't have the road spray, but you would need to clean the lens off every so often when mounted low.

Good to hear a comparison, thanks!

Seems like the guys have been helping answer your questions. Please let me know if you have any more. Having both on my truck while designing them, there are advantages to both. Having the camera above the door lets the lines still work well. When trying to back out of a parking spot you have a high advantage and can see over most cars to help see if anything is coming. Down low you have a great "straight out the back" view which I really like. If you use anything in the hitch I suggest going high. I also have a very small bracket that mounts under the door if you don't want the full filler plate. It is not yet on the website.

For the above the door, I just dropped the price some on the cable, I found another resource to order them at a lower cost.

I don't have the filler but my camera is mounted low and I also use the turn on with turn signals as well. At night and in rain, not the best but not too bad. I do love having the camera on with turn signals.
