I tried both a 13" and a 9" antenna... both look cool but reception was not good

The stock antenna height is there by design. You can get away with a stubby if you live in a metropolitan area to the radio station you listen to that is closer to the stations transmitter tower and/or repeater. Live in the middle of nowhere, reception will suffer with FM losing out quicker to AM signals.

oP - Why not just take yours off, hammer it back straight and save yourself a few bucks, plus better reception than any of the erectile-dysfunctional antennas?!
Dan I need to replace mine because the car wash actually whipped the antenna into my windshield and cracked it. I only use Spotify so a good antenna is not needed for my use.

I hear this often. What kind of car washes do you guys go to ? I have had many jeeps and still have a 2009 JK as well as the JT and go thru car washes weekly. I have never in 20+ years had a windshield get broke by an antenna. I use touchless and ones with the spinning stuff. I know some car washes actually remove the antenna as I go in to them (on all vehicles).

I heard it as well but ignored the info sad to say. My car wash has the cloth strips down the middle and brushes on the side. I heard it slap the windshield multiple times and still didn't change out the antenna. Live and learn...

I've never even thought to remove the antenna. I've had a lot of cars with long antennas, and it's never crossed my mind to remove it. Never broke it either. When I had cars with non-flexible, collapsible-type antennas, I did retract them.
Now that I'm thinking about it, it probably means the next carwash I go through will destroy my antenna.

Note: I have an old Landcruiser FJ62 with a remote up|down AM/FM antenna. In the finge area where I live, it is amazing how much better and outstanding the reception gets as the antenna rises with the remote. Do not kid yourself into thinking that the short antennas will give as good as reception as the longer antenna lengths in the fringe areas. So, it is definitely a tradeoff.

Maybe they spin backwards on the west coast....Never had that issue on the east coast
Car washes are what prompted me to go with a 13" rubber antenna plus I listen to XM radio 99% of the time.

The people running CA spin backwards, otherwise our threads are the same. Our threaded products are also taxed more but the same otherwise.

I would recommend the 9 inch one, the 6 is a little too short for my liking but it’s still better than the original.
