I was warned by local dealership that I should go with automatic transmission because manual transmission may be experiencing some issues? Sounded fishy.. Any truth? I'd love to get manual! I miss driving it!

Now at 73k+ miles, 4.5 years later. Still original clutch. I haven't babied it, I've taken it off-road many times, recently Moab, and it's still solid. I'll eventually replace it with a Centerforce when needed, but there's still plenty of life left in it. I still don't use 6th, unless I'm going downhill, and want to salvage some MPG after driving Colorado mountain highways.

Oh well my clutch finally went out last year and thankfully it was on recall. New clutch is different. Acts a bit more clunky. Reminds me of my old motorcycle.

Umm. Point of order. The JT has a deeper reverse than the JK did. I'm no fan of the new forward gearing either (bought the auto) but the JT should be deeper geared than the JK in reverse.

Avoid, no. Cautionary tale, yes. I think the clutch recall issues were way overblown. That said, my MT is not very smooth compared to pretty much every other MT vehicle I've had. You also limit your towing capacity. Finally, I'd gotten used to having coffee in my hand while driving in town. Can't do that with a stick. You're sneaking sips between the next stop light.

If I were to do things over, I'd have gone with automatic transmission.

I agree with you except not with my truck but with my next motorcycle. Manual with a truck is rough in heavy traffic but it's awful with a motorcycle. Especially since we don't have lane splitting here. When not in traffic I really enjoy the manual. I do wish it got better mpg and the towing capacity wasn't so limiting.

modern problems require modern solutions.

The only reason I could think of
The Aisin transmission is a good one, and shared with Tacomas (five of which I've owned), and never even thought of the clutch or transmission while owning those trucks. Now that I have an ACT clutch it feels like the Tacoma clutches. Problem solved - at a $2500 price tag!

I agree. I love MTs. I've been driving them since 1965 (sorry to out myself on age). I've decided to trade for a AT JTR, since at some point I won't want to press that pedal. The ACT clutch I installed does have higher pedal pressure, but I must say is a great improvement over the "slushie" Jeep clutch.

I was just referring to the day to day annoyances of having vehicle with a clutch, nothing specific about the Jeep clutch being problematic

It's a totally different box than the Tacos which are rated for about 20% more torque. The 6mt in the JL and JT are barely rated for what the engine puts out but it was a required compromise because nothing else fits in the 2dr chassis. It wasn't an issue in the Wrangler that doesn't really tow or haul but between the extra 500# of the JT and its expected utility, you're seeing more issues on this side of the fence.

Another reason for me to switch to an AT JTR.

Those that have replaced, what was the % reimbursement from Jeep, and timeframe from submission to reimbursement?
