That's all I had to go by until I saw the post with the install instructions. I am now assuming my dealer put it on, but the question remains did it come from Stellantis for the dealer to install?

Hootbro, does your center mounted tail light flash or pulse when the brake light 1st comes on?
Never checked. I have driven behind numerous other Gladiators and never noted a pulsing 3rd brake light.

For what reason would Stellantis send this for the dealer to install?

The reason I do not think Jeep/Stellantis sent this, is because that attachment method would not be in line with their process standards for electrical hookup. Plus stellantis would have published tech data if they did.

I'll have to ask the dealer. If it cost them money, I can't imagine them installing it without trying to sell it...

I'd bet it's just part of the new inventory prep service that dealership does for all vehicles to prepare/cleanup the vehicle for the lot or customer. By installing it right away it's just one more thing they can sneak onto the price sheet to make you purchase.

The dealership I bought mine from installed one on my lot JT, and when they surprised me with it while signing papers I kinda just glared at the sales guy and they decided to just throw it in for free.

For the record, they tried to add $500 to the purchase for it, when it's probably a $20 device. Most people would probably just say whatever since it really doesn't change the monthly payment all that much, $500 over 60 months is just over $8 per month. I'd also bet this is why they don't sell direct to customer, so you don't know how badly you're getting screwed at the $500 price.

A local deal I was looking at added something like this, Pulse is what they used. If I would have bought from them, that would have been something I needed removed. They also charge about $900 for that install, look hard at the paperwork. They charged you for it.

Not a fan of my brake lights acting like a 70s disco. They wanted too much, and found one from another dealer I could work with.

I was hooking up my power lock for my Leer Topper and found this on the back side of the cover where the wires exit the bed and go into the tail gate. The red taps are on the three wires that I suppose go to the third brake light. The three taps go into something that is shrink sleeved in yellow. Not sure what it is and I hate the type of taps that was used. I only use "Positaps" so it doesn't mangle the wires like a standard scotch lock does. You can see my taps in blue and the others in red....

Thanks,

~Tony

That’s not factory. I’ve had mine completely apart. There would be no tape of any kind there. It makes me think the dealer had something aftermarket on it, then changed their mind and decided to sell it without. They should have replaced the wiring harness before a sale in my opinion. I’d ask them to give you a replacement. I’ll get you the part number momentarily.

I wish they had put mine in like the alternate method shows... I may move it, I can't stand it just dangling. Also, If I red this correctly, it was dealer installed..... hmmmm
I’d politely demand a replacement harness. That’s not cool for them to do that on a new vehicle, unless requested by the buyer.

I looked at the paperwork closely. I am a retired motorcycle dealer and understand the program and I tell them up front I'm not paying for any add ons that I don't want. That applies to their mop and glow paint and interior crap etc... I will go by there Monday and ask for a new wire harness as well. When my Jeep app went live I saw on service history they charged Jeep for fixing a flat and I made them replace the tire that had the flat once I found out about it. It had been plug patched from a puncture.

"...NHTSA, pulsing 3rd brake lights can reduce the risk of being rear-ended by up to 50%"

Operative phrase being "up to", but I bet that's backed by some 30 year old pre smartphone study that they're selectively referencing. What do you suppose the percentage of modern rear-ends are from people not even looking at the road? You can rig up all sorts of light shows but it won't fix the stupid behind you.

At any rate, I was actually taught by my parents to pulse my brakes when I notice braking/slow downs ahead, for whatever good it can do. But I think I'd be rather irked having a 3rd party contraption installed without disclosure. Obviously even more so if they tried to charge for it.. but what's the warranty on this thing? What happens if it fails or malfunctions? Are side effects possible? Probably of little concern in this particular case, but that's a shady practice.
