Yes

70 for me is exactly 2000 rpm

I'm getting 18-19 mpg at 70

I’m running a 38” Patagonia that measures out at 37” at 28psi. I live in San Diego so there’s a lot of hills and not much of a straight flat stretch here, I get about 11mpg (it’s almost all city mpg) When I hit long road trips I can get around 16mpg. Before I got the 5:13 I was beginning to wonder if I even had an 8th gear now I can confirm I do 😂
A lot peppier too!

That Yellowstone run is a little more hilly than south Louisiana!! Nice to hear from you tho, I been watching the hell out of your videos lol
Thanks for the support. I appreciate you. Yeah. Definitely a lot bigger hills. Interestingly some of my best mileage was in and around Yellowstone- saw 19-20mpg going up and down. Worst was in flat Indiana , Illinois and Iowa - 12-14mpg on high ethanol content gas.

For quick comparisons.
Tire weight, extra drag from height, tread etc. not included.
Guys that complain about not getting into 8th or even 7th with tall tires are running the same effective gear ratio in 6th or even 5th.

The above chart figures at 1:1
to find your rpm in a given gear at a given speed, multiply by the gear-

If you really need low gearing for rock crawling or lots of city driving go for the 5.13's, if not then 4.88's are probably fine even if you hardly see 8th gear. Looking at hp/torque curves, these things want to rev.-note not picking that argument here, this is a gear thread.

I live in western Pa so highway driving is a lot of long gradual uphill grades. My wheel tire combo is decently heavy, 37” STT pros and black rhino Abrams so around 115# each. 80 on the highway is around 2300 rpm and gets me between 19-20 mpg. If there’s a decent headwind it drops to about 17. Around town is 12-14 depending on how I drive.

5.13's and a true 37" is not a bad setup

You should be 2,300-2,400 at 70 mph.
Yeah, I'm on 37 inch BFG and at 70-72 I'm around 2,200-2,300 RPMs. To me I would not waste my time with 4.88's. I did 5.13's and in flat Houston I love the set up. I'm a rock crawler too and the set up it fine. I crawled with the stock 4.10's and now the 5.13's and I did fine with both.
