Well, with this 4xe thing going down, I don't think I'll be keeping the Wrangler that replaced my Gladiator. And with the wife downsizing from her Grand Cherokee to an Ioniq 5, I'm feeling the itch for something with a bed.

That said, I'm feeling burned by Stelantis on this one and am heavily considering a Colorado ZR2. A Bison if I can swing it. Or maybe go tried and true Tacoma? But I like crawling. And nothing crawls like a Jeep.

So what about y'all? Anybody coming from some other midsize truck? If so, what was the decision point for you to go Gladiator?

I came from a Tacoma. I always loved Jeep Wranglers (but never had one)and I like to have something with a bed on it also. When the Gladiator came out my neighbor got one and I always wanted one. Finally bought my Gladiator about a little over a year ago. I have no complaints about the Tacoma but I like the Gladiator a lot more. If the reliability of the Gladiator holds out I don’t ever see myself leaving Jeep. I don’t do any crawling.

I came from a 1/2 ton Silverado with the 3.0 diesel. I loved that truck but the 10 speed transmission was a piece of junk. I got the Gladiator for the main purpose of pulling an overland trailer I had built for use during my retirement which starts in February. When this is no longer practical I'll evaluate my options and move into something else. I do miss the comfort and quiet ride. The Colorado ZR2 is sharp looking.

Hung on to that Tacoma for six months

was a keeper.

I really liked those two small 2WD pickups.
Whenever I get in and out of the Gladiator
this old man remembers why.

I purchased my first Jeep Gladiator ( 2024 Sport S), new in May of this year. I came over from a 2001 Ford Ranger that I also purchased new. When my Ranger turned 400,000 miles, I finally decided to purchase its replacement.
Looking at the milage and reliability I experienced for 24 years, I thought I would simply purchase another Ranger, but I am not a fan of Turbo engines and the new Rangers ride terrible in comparison to my 2001. At the same time, the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma had also switched to Turbo, so I decided to give the Gladiator a try, and I'm glad I did. I've kept mine stock, so the ride (in my opinion) is better than any midsized truck I've driven yet. And for that reason alone, I'll probably keep it stock, which is probably not a popular plan on this forum 😁 ). I'm retired now and I drive this truck everywhere I go. My wife and I recently drove the Gladiator from Memphis all the way home to the NC Coast and never got sore from the seats or fatigued by the ride. I've never been happier and glad I made the switch.

I had two fantastic Colorados before this. A 2016 ext cab Z71,4x4, V6. Then a 2019 crew cab Z71,4x4, V6. Both used for towing a 5,600lbs 26’ travel trailer. We wanted a Gladiator since their release in 2019, but too expensive at first with no deals. But in 2024 we found a Sport S, no tow just as we now needed without camper. The only dynamic difference between the two, of the previous gen Colorado would be the steering on the Chevy, with IFS and rack an pinion steering is more accurate and precise on the road and highway, but not quite the same off road. The Gladiator rides better all around and has better build quality and materials. As far as reliability? Neither Colorado ever went back to a dealer for anything but maintenance. The steering damper has been replaced at 14,000, plus front end re-aligned on the Gladiator. Plus the gas mileage is better for the Gladiator, especially using the ACC, my unbelievable lifetime average is 20.5 mpg! With 20/24 daily. The Colorados got 19/23. Granted I drive the speed limits and easily.

Besides recalls, what's going down?

I realize that you feel burned by Stellantis, but I'm a big Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler fanboy, so I will most likely stick within the brand unless something really looks enticing elsewhere. With that said, I absolutely love the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. If I wanted a more refined and quiet midsize truck, then I'd wait for the Ram Dakota.

I came from a 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro. I tried to like that truck but I just couldn't. Underpowered with a piss poor performing 6spd auto transmission left a very boring and frustrating drive experience. I can't speak for the 2024 and newer Taco with the turbo 4, but I can speak for Toyota in general, and they always seem to be behind in technology. Every bit of tech felt a decade behind. It was just a boring truck.

I made the switch to the Gladi because A) diesel, B) 8spd ZF transmission, C) tried and true off road performance, D) diesel paired with ZF transmission. When I was shopping before I bought the Taco I let the internet naysayers talk me out of a Gladi because "they are riddled with problems", "they are the worst selling truck for a reason", blah blah blah. So far non of that has been true of my truck.

It's the way Stelantis is handling the recall. Software updates for hardware problems doesn't work. I'm on my third recall where they're trying that crap instead of ponying up to fix the safety defect in the part. When I had my 6spd Gladiator, the recall came out for the clutch grenading itself. That said, dropping a stronger clutch in is an easy weekend job. It'd take me a month plus to take the battery pack apart, pull the Samsung cells, put in different cells, seal it back up and reprogram the computers to play nicely with the new pack.

For the group, I liked my Gladiator while I had it. At the time tho, I had a two hour commute and couldn't shake the weight of the gas costs in addition to my wife's gas guzzler as well. With her going EV and my current commute being way less, definitely more an option

I have a 23 Gladiator. When the new tacoma came out I went and test drove the crew cab model in a TRD pkg. The very 1st thing I noticed was, I felt cramped and I'm not a big guy. The dash seemed intrusive and the back seat seemed a lot less roomy than the Gladiator. My work truck is a 23 Ranger extended Cab. Driver/ passenger area is roomier than the tacoma. I would assume similar to a colorado or canyon. Those new zr2 bison with 35s look pretty tough though.

I’ve owned at least 2 Tacomas over the years…. 1996 and 2007. My offroading days started with the 1996 Tacoma and we bought a couple YJ’s to do serious off-roading with. The 2007 Tacoma was never offroaded….. and had the frame replaced in 2015 (warranty). I traded the 2007 Tacoma for a 2016 GMC Canyon.

Back in 2016, obviously…the Gladiator wasn’t available. We went with the Canyon because the Tacoma just didn’t have the options like the Canyon had.
We owned the Canyon from 2016 -2024 and didn’t have any issues with it. We never offroaded with it…. I don’t believe the Canyon SLT w/ 20” wheels were offroad worthy. 😉 It was a reliable truck!!

If I were to do any regular offroading like I did 25 years ago…I’d buy a used TJ and modify that.

10 years ago, I decided that I was going to buy purpose-built vehicles and keep them. Back then, the cost of vehicles was already getting expensive, so I knew we couldn't keep buying and trading every 5 - 7 years.

Our 2015 Ram EcoDiesel is our daily driver and work truck (my wife and I carpool together). The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel is our designated tow rig. We've been averaging 8,000 - 9,000 miles per year towing. The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel is mostly used in inclement weather, getting to and from our mountain property, and it's a backup vehicle when our daily driver is in the shop.

Whatever you decide to do, I would be purpose driven with your vehicle purchase. We don't have enough money to pay cash for a vehicle, so we've been buying vehicles on 5-year loans and paying them off. The Jeep will be paid off in 3 more years, then we'll be ordering a Ram 3500 Cummins.

I traded my 2019 Colorado ZR2 (95,000 miles)(V6) for a 2025 Mojave X which currently has 3500 miles. I loved my ZR2 and do miss it some. One of the biggest reasons I went to the Gladiator was to get the removable top and doors, mostly the top. Also, the Jeep was only truck with a V6. I admit that I didn't drive the new ZR2 with the Turbo 4 so I can't really compare the two. I just like the longevity of a V6. Now I will say that my 19' ZR2 had more power than this Mojave. That's the only gripe I have is that the engine in the Jeep seems under-powered, but it's not terrible. I don't regret my decision at all...love my Mojave X. I also chose the Mojave model because it was similar setup to the ZR2 suspension wise, etc. I got an excellent deal on my trade in and the Jeep dealer sold my ZR2 in 3 days. Good luck on your decision....

I've owned and built about 15 - 20 vehicles. Everything from cars, trucks, SUVs into lowriders, hot rods, and offroad rigs. Airbags, hydraulics, etc.

Having said all of that, my previous truck before the JT was a Ram 1500. 4wd, 9" lift, and pretty much only useful for driving around. Too big to wheel in a lot of places and just no fun. I traded it for the JT. I pull the same trailers that I pulled with the Ram and get the same MPGs. Only difference is the Ram had more cabin space. So, then we had two jeeps. A JT and JKU.

I was in the market for another fullsize truck to just ride around in and tow the Jeep because I have over 200k on the jeep now. Unfortunately my father passed away last year, so I now have his Ram.

I like both of our Jeeps and I like the Ram. For cabin space... the Ram. For wheeling and fun.... the Jeep too. I daily drive both. Hell.... like I said, I have over 200k on the JT, 67k on the Ram, and 57k on the JKU.

I guess the point is, you have to purchase for your purpose. You can't go wrong with a full size or mid size as long as it fits your purpose.

Is your 2019 actually listed as a 2020 model ?
