Seeing as how I've got both... you, sir, are completely full of it.

Do you know how nice it is to be able to keep stuff out of the cab that doesn't belong in the cab? Fuel, chemicals, garbage (leave no trace), noisy ass tool boxes... I guess if you don't get out and use your Jeep, you don't have a need for any of these things.

I've also come to realize that the longer wheel base of the JT helps more often than it hurts when we, I'm sure this is foreign to you, actually wheel our rigs.

The longer wheel base of the JT is SOOOOOOO much more comfortable on road trips, especially with the triangulated 4 link in the rear.

Not to mention, the few thousand-ish pounds difference in towing capacity between the two.

I think you should have bought a truck that's better at being a truck <-- You see how dumb this sounds?

All that being said, MOST Jeep owners modify their rigs and everyone has a different approach to it... I am absolutely certain that if there was a right way of doing this whole Jeep thing, it wouldn't be your way.
I like the bobbed bed option, but would have to reconfigure my current bed rack and tent situation. I don't know if I'm ready for that kind of investment lol

Yeah... I've been having that dilemma too. I am on the fence about whether to build a trailer out of my stock bed or to ditch my spare tire and bolt on my cross bars/tent when we plan on camping. The tent would overhang the back of bed a bit when it's on there, which would perform just fine, but I'm not sure I want to do it like that. HAHA! I've got some decisions to make.

I've got a year or two on my lease to figure it out. If I'm remembering the rack dimensions right, it would need a little more than a foot cut off the fit on the bobbed bed. That would give me quite a bit of overhang. I have the 23Zero Armadillo A2 right now. I'd also still need to be able to fit my ARB Elements fridge and battery box in the bed for trips.

I told my wife I was doing this to the Jeep just to get the clearance in the garage when the garage door is shut. The rest of the conversation was a blur!:swear:

Hmm, if I could get the wife to tow this with her Wrangler while I tow the big trailer, then I could still do the bobbed bed and we'd have enough sleeping room for the family.

Forums are places for opinions. You have yours, I have mine. Neither have any more weight than the other.

I prefer the custom bobbed like the bob doff where they shorten the stock bed about 8 inches. Just follows the lines better imo. I've seen a number of these in person though and they're not bad at all.

with the sun out here beating everything up, I sure miss being able to park in my garage. But that was the price to pay going from a JKU to the JT. ?

Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking. It would tow great behind a Wrangler too.

The problem I've run in to is the hitch they have for the bobbed bed isn't certified for towing. My current trailer is about 5500lbs loaded and I wouldn't pull that with a non certified trailer.

Meh... yours is conjecture about something you have zero experience with... mine is an anecdote from real world experience.

That's a fair point. Mine is about the same weight.

I plan on finding anywhere I can to weld in extra gussets anywhere that makes sense before install and really keeping an eye on it when towing for a while.

I'm sure it's one of those situation where they just don't want to spend the money to go have the thing certified by the DOT. It looks beefier than the factory one, is tied into all the same places as the factory one and the bumper that it's tied into is definitely stronger than the factory bumper. It SHOULD be just fine but only time will tell... HAHA!

I agree, and I've seen that they tow their equipment trailer to shows with it. While I feel it "should" be fine, my insurance would probably not agree.
