I have a 2DR JL I am working on building up but not always the best on the highway. I also own a Rubicon Gladiator. Anyone tow another Jeep with a Gladiator? Numbers suggest it is possible but not much extra. Or is that just going to be a terrible experience?

If you plan on using a trailer, get yourself an aluma trailer. An 18' tilt bed is only 1600 pounds.
I tow a 3,300 pound 4x4 on my 1600 pound Aluma trailer and do just fine. (1500 without spare or toolbox, 1600 with spare tire and tool box which is a whopping 10 pounds)

Flat towing I don't see an issue.
If using a trailer, get a light trailer.

I found obtained my 19 steel frame car hauler at auction from a local municipality. Brakes on both axles with. Trailer has 9000 lb capacity. Weighs 2000 lbs on the nose before I put a winch on it. I had to rescue my wife's 2001 TJ once and the Gladiator towed that estimated 5400 lbs with ease, even at our 6500 foot MSL level here in Colorado. I do a lot shows and parades with one of WWII Jeeps on the trailer. I have mounted chocks on the trailer, 1/4 inch lag bolted to the wood deck, to get right around 475 lb tongue weight which seems ideal for the 4150 lb weight of the trailer and WWII Jeeps. I measured the weight at the hitch while I was adjusting the position of the Jeep to get that tongue weight. I average about 13-14 MPG pulling the Jeep/trailer combo. Really not too bad. I have had to transport that 1969 GTO on occasion and that total weight is probably 6000 lbs and again the truck does very well with that weight. That 8 speed auto does a great job of keeping the engine right in the engine's power band. More power always good but I am very happy with how the Gladiator tows.

I tow my 2000 TJ with my 2022 JT. Added a brake controller and weight distribution hitch. Tows as well as my Durango and Tacoma did before it.

OP you left out how often and far you would go.
As others mentioned, the lighter the trailer the better. I was towing this TJ with a 2000# borrowed steel deck and bought this 1250# trailer and it was a big difference. I imagine the JL is a bit heavier than the TJ.
For a few hundred miles several times a year you will be fine. 1000 miles every weekend? You will want something different, and mostly just because the JT is not that great of a road trip vehicle noise wise, not because of the towing.

XJs are surprisingly light (500# less than a TJ! maybe 700 less than a JL) so you should be golden.

Same as the others have stated… I tow my TJ all the time no issues. JT Sport with Tow Package. 16’ trailer and a modestly modified TJ.

Any particular reason why everybody is using a trailer instead of just flat towing the TJ? They’re designed by Jeep to be flat towed.

I can understand if you had some super sticky red label tires that would wear out on the highway, but for the average tire shouldn’t be a problem. Same if it was a super monied crawler.

in my experience, it’s a lot easier to just hook up the tow bar to the front of the bumper, attach it to the back of the Jeep and you’re done

A trailer allows you to break more stuff and still be able to get it home. ?
