A couple months ago I added some tailgate seal to the bed and thought I'd share a little bit about it here since I wouldn't have done it without the topper.I purchased the following product from Amazon: ESI Ultimate Tailgate Seal 10'

Skill level: Easy!
Time: 30-1 hour (1 hour if you're constantly getting into the bed and shutting yourself in looking for hints of light - this means there's a gap!

I was skeptical and we'll see how long it lasts but so far so good! The directions are pretty spot on except where the tailgate corners are concerned. The Gladiator has rounded edges on the bottom and if you don't seal that don't bother with anything else. I noticed it during the install and there was a good amount of sunlight coming through that area on each bottom corner so watch out for that if you plan to use any kind of tailgate sealing strategy.

The pictures show a dirty bed but that's because I never cleaned it before putting the topper on. It has been out in the deserts of Anza Borrego and Ocotillo Wells with very little intrusion. I have not sealed any other area. I understand there are some holes along the lip of the bed above the wheel well area. I'll have a look at that next but it hasn't been noticeable.

Side seals are doing well. You can see where it's stopping the dust.

These rounded corners need to be sealed!

Passenger side and, again, you can see where it's stopping the dust.

This bottom edge is a concern as you have to figure out with the placement. The instructions say to try it .5" below the bed line. If you notices as you slowly close the tailgate that the seal is being rolled down due to the tailgate grabbing it you need to place it right up to the bed floor line as I have. The Line-X Bedliner will grab the seal and roll it down and possible remove the sticky backing. Place it as high up as you can and it won't be a problem. The other issue here is the wiring coming through the bed as you can see in the picture there's a spot where it bulges out but it hasn't been a problem.

Hope this helps someone wanting to do this. Any questions let me know!

Did you ever end up purchasing crossbars? I just bought a ARE cap w the pre-mounted rails and wondering what brand fits the channels the best? Or, does anyone know if those types of channels are universal. ARE promotes the Yakima crossbars but doesn't say much about the mounting towers.

I have an ARE CX Classic on order and all is good but did not order the opening side windows. I like the clean look of the standard ones and they will seal good. Wondering if I should change the order to include the side opening windows. How important are they for camping?

i think they are definitely worth the price of admission..you can reach everything in the bed from the side and not having to crawl in...and it is nice to have the wide opening for a nice breeze for the dog...They are German Shedder approved

@MattK - Does your gazelle tent fit in the bed? I have the T4 plus Hub and the Gazebo Deluxe 6 sided G6 and I’m unsure if they will fit enclosed or have to go on top?

Do those windows seal out the dust well when closed? How secure is the locks? Just want to make sure that the change doesn't have other issues.

the windows seal very well...no dust thru there..the Gladiator has a couple of spots you need to seal up if you are worried about dust coming in...the drain slots where the front panel and floor meet and the tailgate area..I sealed both areas and put a bed rug down and I get no dust in at all..was up in Big bear this weekend and it was REAL dusty but the bed is dust free...locks are secure as any door lock would be on a glass window as you know if they want to get in they can get in.. I do like that I can open them from the inside if I ever have the need to do so...i think you will be bummed if you dont spring for the windoors in my opinion

I have the Gazelle T4 tent which has a length of 67.5" in the carrying bag and it fits if you get it in sideways a little, or lift one of the end. At 63" length in the carrying bag, the T4 Plus should be even easier to fit. My G5 Gazebo is 63" in the bag and fits well in the back of the truck. Your G6 Deluxe is 75" in the carrying bag, it might be difficult to fit in if you have anything else in the truck.

Both my T4 and G5 fit in the back when I don't have too much gear, but they end up on my roof rack often. Sometime it's easier to just throw them on top instead of leaving space for them inside.

Just depends on how you want to use the bed of the truck. I like being able to get at the things I store towards the front of the bed without crawling in. Being able to open the side windows is great for me.

I have the original T3 (which is a bit smaller than the newer T3X) and it fits fine in the bed sideways. You'll just need to measure the length of both of your Gazelle tents and see if it will fit length-wise. The bed with the tailgate closed is about 60.3 inches long.

Gazelle's website says the T4 Plus Hub Tent is 63" long packed. You can probably stuff it in the bed length-wise. Gazelle's website says the G6 Deluxe 6-Sided Portable Gazebo is 75" long collapsed so that's not going to fit in the bed. Load bars or a rack on the shell would be an option.

The window seals on mine are doing fine. Your mileage may vary depending on build quality, right? The locks are a deterrent and it's just a lever that moves up to clear the opening when unlocked and back down across the shell when locked. If someone wants in, they're getting in, but the lock seems solid enough. Again, it's just a deterrent.

Just a thought regarding the ARE Classic rear door, I strongly suggest the door with two latches/handles as opposed to the single center handle. This is my 3rd ARE Classic and the first I have used with two door handles. The single handle design is much less secure and the mechanism, with the two long sliding rods, is much less stout and prone to failure than the two handle rear door.
A previous poster asked about cap roof racks. I have included pics of my Yakima bike rack and how I mounted the towers. Second pic is the rectangular metal washer inside the cap to which the tower mounting bolts attach.

My cap does not have factory installed rails. Not an engineer, but it seemed to me that mounting the rack towers on the sides of the cap might better distribute its weight as opposed to placing weight on the flat area on top of the cap. I am currently building a plywood rack to attach to the bike rack cross rails to give me more external storage when I travel with my 5 large dogs. If I ever get it finished and installed, I’ll post pics.

I have the 2 rear window latches on my order. I just have to call and beg for the side window change. My expected delivery date is end of July so a change might be possible. .
Called Fullerton Truck and they made the change to the Outdoorsman window. They verified the change with ARE. Fullerton truck is the the best for a bed cover in the area IMO. They answer the phone and know what they are selling.
