Was doing some wiring for my factory aux switches. Then I came across this little guy on the right. I was hoping for a ground but I have a feeling I can’t be that lucky what’s it for?

I’d say it probably is, just unused. That’s how the aux wires look under the hood from the factory, with a little rubber cover. Probably an option that mounts in that area somewhere?

Those are factory installed aux switch wiring. The owners manual shows in cabin and engine bay option.

I have the same wire on all of my Jeeps. It's curved back into the larger group of wires and taped. I'll need a garden gnome to follow the wire though.

Ya know I think I saw that one too when I was ripping things apart one day. Due to the shape I thought it might be a vent of some sort. I didn’t look too closely at it since it wasn’t my purpose for being down there. Learned long ago that if you go exploring in a Jeep because it could lead to many rabbit holes so I just keep on task and save those for other days when I don’t have a purpose in that area.

That is interesting if it is not one of the aux wires. It seems a strange place to terminate a ground wire unless it is used for an option that is not selected and is already in the harness. I usually ground any additions near the item instead of wasting the effort to run a ground wire back to one of the lugs or the power distribution with the exception of the winch due to the amperage. If i wanted to use it for something I would check if it has voltage when off/ running or the aux switches are on etc and if not check for continuity to ground but it would be just as easy to add a ring terminal to what you are powering's ground wire and use the ground lugs.

I found posts going back to 2018 on the JL side talking about that extra wire but with no info of what it is for.
