How can the backup lights "solve the problems of the license plate lights........" ??
They can't. Totally different lights and issues.
I also have the Oracle high-intensity bumper-mounted back up lights and it makes no difference with the license plate lights on the backup camera.
There is still license plate light GLARE on the camera. That's the washout.
It's the license plate lights shining directly on the backup camera lens that is the issue, the issue isn't "not enough backup lights".

I blind people for a block behind me now, and see the back wall on my garage smoke when I back into the garage with the Oracle reverse lights in my bumper - but still the license plate lights shine and reflect on the camera lens.
I posted earlier in this thread that I had the same results with a similar set up. I've got bumper lights and the oracle tail lights. I don't get the glare either. Reverse at night is nice and clear.

Tazer solved this for me as well.
It's just one of many benefits. The other is hitting the lock either 3 or 5 times to turn on the bed lights. or the bed lights with the reverse lights if you need them for night time.

I will say, backing up in the Gladiator compared to my wife's Ranger is so much nicer.
I feel like I am blind in the Ranger.

It's no longer an issue on my truck. I'm not sure why you would think I'm making that up. It sucked before the bumper lights. Now I can see fine. The camera adjusts it's sensitivity based on the ambient lighting. When you have more light out the back, it overcomes the camera adjusting for the license plate lights. At least that's what's happing on mine. Would it be even better if the license plate lights were out? Possibly. But not worth my time at this point to try as it works fine right now.
I have the Oracle lights - it made no difference other than I can see to back down my 130' drive and see all the way back without issue.
As far as the camera, there wasn't a bit of difference, not at all.
The thing is the light is out the back - way out there and when there's nothing behind you to reflect the light, the camera won't change.
Maybe your situation is different and your lights reflect on things impacting the camera.
Mine shine on the driveway as I back down. When I stop on the road at the top of the driveway I can't see the driveway to turn back into it - that's how bad it is, even though those Oracle backup lights are real flame throwers!

Made no difference on mine and I've had my Oracle backup lights installed for months. But I'm out in the country, in the open, there's nothing for the backup lights to shine or reflect on for the camera to adjust. It's just as bad as it was before the backup lights.

Do you happen to have the 8.4 inch screen? I've got the 7. Wonder if that makes a difference. Maybe brightness effect feels more amplified.

How do you like the build quality of the Oracle backup lights. I was a bit concerned about the 1 year warranty. Another vendor has a much longer warranty but is about 2x the price. (I can't remember what brand). Is everything sealed up or potted in a way that won't fail after a couple of New England winters?

Large screen, yes. All I know for a fact is that on my truck, adding the oracle 1,000,000,000 lumen flame throwing bumper-mounted backup lights (well, maybe not QUITE that bright, I guess) I still have the same issues with the camera.
The backup lights made zero difference.
I understand that these, like cell phones and other similar cameras adjust to change the light let in according to conditions........
HOWEVER, this is not about the camera adjusting the light it lets in, it's actually a glare on the camera from the license plate lights. It's like trying to take a good photo with your camera facing the sun - the lens is being hit by the license plate lights and glaring.

Maybe that's the difference between mine and his - this isn't fixable by the amount of light let in - it's the license plate lights glaring off the camera lens. So no amount of backup light can resolve it.
I'll try to get a pic or two if I can but I seldom have reason to have the truck out after dark until the weekend.

I had only one comment on them - and since I bought very early, their version 1.00.0, maybe they've made a change, maybe not - it's where the wire enters the light itself I think should have some strain relief. But how I have them mounted and the wires tied up it's a non-issue in my case.

possible test is to cover you plate with cardboard and see if it's the glare. If it is, maybe get a cover to diffuse reflected light.

edit: whoops, read that wrong. For a second, I read it as the glare off of your plates as well as the lights. hahaha.

But yeah. this sounds like a YMMV deal. Before I installed my back up lights, my screen was a dim red and bright spots where the plate lights are. Now, the upper parts of the screen are clear and the bottom where the plate lights and top of the bumper are the dimmest parts.

Good luck. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

Do you have pics of your install. It's tempting as I'd rather not dig up the connectors and such myself. I'm having enough difficulty getting far less complex connectors for restoration work and spending a ton of time getting that stuff. Sometimes it pays to let someone else do the work and pay them. (especially with this good review)
I didn't take pictures during the install, but I'll snap some in the next few days and post them.

I'd agree if I had the correct tools to do the correct sealed crimps on those connectors. By the time I get the correct tool for the correct connectors, find and buy the shells, etc. - I can make more than 60 bucks doing another restoration.

My wiring tools date back into the 80s and before............... and the correct tools for the correct crimps on these aren't cheap.
But for the guys who have said tools, maybe you do? I can see your point for sure.

California Vehicle Code 24601Either the taillamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear license plate during darkness and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear.
When the rear license plate is illuminated by a lamp other than a required taillamp, the two lamps shall be turned on or off only by the same control switch at all times.

Many other states have similar laws......
New York, for example -
4. if required to display a number plate on the rear, a white light
which shall illuminate the numerals on such plate in such manner as to
render such numerals legible for at least fifty feet from the rear. The
provisions of this subparagraph shall also apply to trailers.

I dare ya to tell a cop "hey, you can turn your headlights on if you need to read my plate"......... They must be able to read it if they are sitting in their vehicle, car off, lights off, or if they are standing outside of a vehicle and you go by - they must be able to read that plate after dark.

If I recall, technically the state owns the plate.
Wow. I design and manufacture wire harness's for Most Pass vehicles, Commercial On road and off road OEM's, etc. For 1/2 that price, I could still make money. Hmmmm....

Were the oracles a pretty easy install? I want to go crazy adding lights to my jeep, but would like to cut my teeth on something easy!
