What happened to the guy making harnesses to shut off the license plate lights when the backup camera comes on?

I believe at this point your only real option is a Tazer.

I think there's a parts list or something on here so that you can build your own.

It actually is a simple small relay - and it shuts off the license plate lights when the backup lights come on, not when the camera comes on.
You can make one - it only takes a pair of connectors to tap into the backup light signal, and a small relay, and another pair of connectors that goes into the line feeding the license plate lamps.
You can buy the parts on places like digikey dot com and so on.
The relay can be really small since the license plate lamps take very very little current - you don't need anything large.
To save time, you could buy the "plug and play" harness from Oracle for their bumper mounted backup lights - that will allow you to get the tap into the backup lights, and signal for the relay, then all you need are the connectors for the license plate lamp harness (that connector is on top of the left frame rail, to the left and rear of the spare tire heat shield as I recall)

Using a small relay, you could actually hide it right in the lines at the tail light connectors.

If you are wanting to do this because the license plate light is over powering the reverse lights I found the best fix was pair of diode dynamics reverse lights. Get the brightest of the 2 options. Problem solved. I did it a few days ago.
See pics as proof

Usually it's not that, it's an actual glare of the LP lamps on the camera lens. I've got killer backup lights (see pic - that's in daylight with bright sun coming in the windows), they didn't matter.
They didn't fix the glare that actually made the image look distorted and parts just plain not visible.
If mine had been as good as your bottom image, I'd not have cared - for some reason, you aren't getting glare in either image.

The Tazer has been hit-and-miss for me. It keeps forgetting itself and I have to un-marry and re-marry it regularly. Despite having the Tazer, I'm very tempted to make a hardware solution.

As much as I like the Tazer, having to spend 30-40 minutes going through disconnecting it, setting it back up, and inputting all my preferred settings every 3-5 months is a giant PITA.

I have seen people selling some black decals that go on the Lic plate light lens that block the light from going up.

This is a timely thread for me after my difficulties this weekend. I'd like to do both the relay to turn off the license plate lights AND the oracle back-up lights.

Does anyone know if the ebay relay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/276489176412) can be used with the oracle back-up lights (https://www.oraclelights.com/collec...mper-led-reverse-lights-for-jeep-gladiator-jt) and plug-n-lay harness (https://www.oraclelights.com/products/oracle-lighting-7-pin-trailer-wiring-t-harness-adapter-plug)?
Yes.
You can either use both behind the left tail light and "daisy chain" the connectors (adding some bulk, of course), or do as I did -
License plate lamp relay connectors behind left tail light, and Oracle plug and play connector behind right tail light.
Works fine.

NOTE - I did not use the Oracle trailer harness adapter - I used their tail light plug and play adapter for the backup lights - but you can do it either way.

Every time someone asks for a simple, inexpensive solution, I see more indications that Z Automotive gives kickbacks for referrals LOL

Seriously, Never had one, don't want one. Everything I've ever wanted to do with mine, I've done with simple, basic hardware solutions, or using JSCAN or AlfaOBD (both are 100% better for troubleshooting, logging, etc)
And, if I trade - again - I simply unplug the harnesses, and move things to the next JT, no added cost (save for a quick new license for JSCAN - AlfaOBD is unlimited vehicle use)

I can take my JT in to a dealership and not have to worry about unmarrying or unplugging anything and so on.

If all one wants to accomplish is turning off the LP lights while in reverse, make your own very simple, very basic harness, or buy the one on eBay. He supports his rigging 100%. A member here did have a problem one time and the seller took care of it in a very friendly, and prompt way.
I have a small tub of all kinds of relays, tons of wire of all sorts and sizes and the crimp tools for a number of connectors (not all, to be sure, but quite a few). His are ready to go and saves the time of finding and ordering the parts. Most should simply order his "harness" and be done with it. Can always move it to the next Jeep.

I tried the film - not sure it would pass CA and certain other state rules about visibility from xx number of feet, but wasn't happy with it either.
Oddly, my 2020 really didn't give me enough problem to mess with it.
My 2022 for some reason was a bit different - had more glare than the 2020 did, even with identical equipment.
