I think it is coming from there. I looked and there was nothing above, and I could see some seepage from the joint

If it is leaking from that joint, pretty sure you are going to need a new front axle/differential assembly. It could be welded up but what else is compromised in that area? The FAD is the weak spot of the front axle.

Did you buy it from a CDJR dealer?

Out of curiosity…how is the gap between the cab and the bed? Straight, even, and equal on both sides?

Ugh. I got it from CarMax. It has 90 day warranty and I am still covered.

Agree. Leaking from that area. Pretty sure that axle is bent. It had to take a hit to cause a leak.

I have dealt with CarMax and that is even better. If they cannot properly fix it, they will actually send it to a local CDJR and follow/pay for whatever their recommendations are.

Edit: CarMax may elect to put a salvage unit in also. So be expecting that.

Standing in the bed of truck it looks equal and straight.

From the sides it looks good. Both sides match. There might be a bit more space at the tops than the bottoms but not much (like 1/4-1/2 inch) and both sides match. Seems straight

This is why I bought from them, just hoping they live up to expectations.

Just don’t want them to gaslight me about it. I took it on some ranch roads to make sure the four wheel drive worked before the warranty ran out. When it made noise, I drove back on the same roads in 2 wheel high lol

I actually will be surprised if they give me trouble though . But I have been so excited about this getting this Jeep, I just want it to work out .

So, here’s my question, would a bent axle cause a clanging noise only in 4 high or low? Or would they be two separate issues?

So if it was a salvage vehicle, they sold it with the warranty not “as is” and did not disclose that—so I am expecting they would still fix it? Or buy it back?

I am talking about the part they get in may come from a salvage vehicle, not that what you bought was a salvage vehicle.

I would be surprised if they even did this but it may be a possibility. They are usually pretty good about kicking this stuff to the dealership and just paying out whatever that cost is.

One other option, is they may suggest unwinding the deal and putting you in a different vehicle of your choosing. Just will depend what the cost will be to fix it. Either way, they are usually pretty good to make it right regardless.

Okay that makes sense. Yeah I am a repeat customer and actually have two vehicles from them. I will be happy if they just make it right. A salvage part wouldn’t be the best option of course, but if they would have to warranty it. Thanks so much for all your help. I will certainly stick around this forum. Y’all are great.

So Carmax took it to the Jeep dealership. They are waiting to hear back from them. CarMax said they will fix it but they were a bit evasive, maybe because they don’t know the extent of damage. Turns out the bumper was hit and then the molding was replaced. I am concerned that hit damaged the axle. They admit it got through their inspection but they keep coming back to “all we go by is our auto report.”

Anyway… they verbally promised they would fix everything wrong with it. They also said they would extend my warranty because the mechanic said it would be in shop a long time. I am still worried I am going to stuck with a broken Jeep. They told me to give them a couple of days to get more information.

I admit I am mad and suspicious of them now. But does it sound like they are being reasonable and I should just have patience? I feel good knowing the Jeep dealership is handling it.

Let it shake out with the Jeep dealership and go from there. CarMax is no different in that they get other people's pig in a poke trade offs the same as other dealerships.

I do not think they want to commit to anything before they know what the outlay to fix it is going to be if there is one at all. I would be surprised if they left you hanging to something that will not be fixed
