Bed Liner in Bolt Holes

What’s the best and easiest way to clean out sprayed in bed liner from the nut holes in the bed so a rail system can be installed? Will a simple tap work or is this going to a bigger job?

Got a trail rail system for xmas and installed it last week. Each threaded hole had bed liner gunk. As was suggested in a post on this topic, I got a thread chaser but first I used a little pick (like a dentist tool) to pick as much material from the threads as I could. What worked best for me was to first pick out as much gunk as possible, then start the bolt into the threaded hole a bit and then use the thread chaser.

I used a thread cutter. Worked perfect. Just be careful.

You can cross thread a tap just like you can a bolt. And the results are even uglier! But the tap should get it out nicely. Keep it lubed, keep it clean and keep it straight.

I ran bolts partially into all the holes before taking it to the sprayer. And I told him that I wanted to be able to use the holes down the road. He took extra care to get it right. Line-X in Lawrenceville GA.

Just ran into this tonight too, shame Mopar doesn't protect the hole when they spray the bed. Also my kit was short 2 screws (seems to be a trend looking at the reviews on here and quadratec). Now I need to find 2 more!

My Line X guy did a great job limiting the gunk in the holes so all I did for one that had a little more was take the bolt in and out a little at a time about 5-6 times and it was all good

I did it yesterday, took a razor around the opening of each hole until I saw all the wall around , then used a very thin screwdriver cleaned a bit then ran a bolt in and out twice ,all eight holes took maybe 45minutes. Used a rachet not impact gun or anything that would not give any feel. Just take your time.....Jack

I still don't know how you guys got these botls tightened by hand. I cleaned the holes up pretty good but could barely get the bolt more than a quarter of a ways in. I ended up using my drill and even with that it was pia to get it snug.

Were you using metric bolts? Coarse or fine thread? They did not go in hard at all.....Jack

I cut an allen wrench down and chucked it in my drill. Used a spare bolt to run in and out a couple times, then used a new bolt for the attachment. Factory bedliner.

I ran into this installing my folding cover... I have spare bolts, so i matched up the size... I was able to start them by hand at least far enough not to cross thread... then Ran them in/out a few times with my cordless impact.... then proceeded to install the kit / bolts.

mine was factory... a tap as per the above would be better, but not necessary if you take care.

In the past to fix threads ive taken a bolt and ground slots in the threads with a dremmel making a “poor mans” tap
