This is what I will go with.

I don't think I need a rail system for anything.
So you’re just going to put a bunch of random holes in the bed rail to mount those to?

For what it’s worth, the only reason I got the bedrail system is to mount my Alu-Cab. Unless you have a VERY specific need for one (I invented one), the average person could get by without one.

Looks like those are threaded M6 - so they'd thread into the existing holes around the perimeter of the bed below the rail.

Mav is correct. These are M6 threaded for the 12 threaded holes in the bed.

I was on the Trail Rail trail for a few days before it hit me that I have no need for one. lol.
So, this should work just fine for lashing the kayaks along with the heavier tie-down points already installed in the bed.

Interesting. I’ve got a pack of these in the garage. I can’t say that I’d trust them for anything more than light duty work (fine for something like a kayak, I’m guessing).

Keep in mind they're just nuts welded to the back side of the bed's side wall sheet metal that can easily flex when not used in a stronger system (the rails). I'm sure they'd work fine for attaching a tarp or something light to, but not a chance would I trust them as a tie down that'll have a lot of off axis tensile load.

I did exactly as the OP suggested for light duty tie downs. Great minds think alike.

This is how I read this post...

Yep, I agree.

Makes sense, but that's a particularly specific and professional way to express that concern...

I knew it...

I just bought steel eyes and screwed them into the holes that the rails mount to.

I'm into them for like $12. Which is fine.

The corner tie downs are all I need for things like motorcycles. The eyes are all I need.

Sorry, sometimes hard to turn it off after hours ?
Heh, well the only reason I read it like that is because I'm a technical writer. I can't turn my grammar snot off either. :)
