I've been doing alot of research on what all-terrain tire to get without really breaking the bank (trying to stay below $350 a tire). I mainly do highway driving with the occasional off-road. I unfortunatly have 3.73 gear ratio so I won't be going up to a full 35" tire. However I still want to keep the overall weight of the tire down.

The main tires I have been considering are the Toyo Open Country A/T lll, Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro, Nitto Ridge/Recon Grappler, and the Falken Wildpeaks.

I really like the Toyos and the Milestar Patagonias just because of the price point. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. 😊

You are about to receive more then you bargained for, lots of opinions out there. (People are going to suggest other tires then what you listed.) I run both the Toyo and Falkens, can't go wrong with either. Toyo will probably be the best bang for your buck.

You likely can't get these tires, but I run the MotoMaster Eliminator X-Trail A/T. They are seriously amazing - great in the winter, great on the highway, and just great overall. I think they ARE a Cooper tire though.

Mickey thompson tires have been the best for me. I have had falkens and cooper tires before. They too were good tires.

I thought the General Grabber ATX's I ran were fantastic tires. Low noise, had great life out of them (over 52K miles on them from Oct 2020 to May 2025) and still had decent amount of tread life left. 3 peak snow rating doesn't mean much for you (unless your Texas location sees snow). I would rate them better then the Hankook DynaPro AT's i had on a 2010 JKUR, and the Cooper AT's, Toyo AT's, and General X3's I had on my 2016 and 2017 Ram 1500's

I wanted the ATX's again when i upgraded to 37's back in May but they discontinued that size in a 17" rim.

The Falken Wildpeaks is the default mid-range tire around here can't go to wrong with them. I'm going with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss next as an upgrade from mid-range ($390'ish)

If you go with the Toyo/Nitto make sure they are not part of the big recall going on right now (tread separation)

So maybe a 285/70/17 size?

If so, there is a Goodyear Ultraterrain in that size for $277/tire and they weigh 58 lbs. I have them in the 35x12.50 size and they’ve been great for about 65k miles so far.

I've really been impressed with the stock Falken AT3w that came on the Rubicon, we have a lot of shale where I like to drive and they don't have a scratch. It's been impressive on slick highways too. Pretty smooth wearing at 35ish K miles. Not the lightest or heaviest.

The Cooper AT3 XLT or Rugged Trek, Grabber ATx, Mickey Thompson EXP are all decent tires that are fairly lightweight (2-6 lbs lighter than the Falken in 285/75r17) and are good quality. You loose a sidewall ply for the lower weight, but I haven't managed to damage the Coopers or Grabbers yet.

I have been hearing more and more bad things about the Patagonia tires. Seems very hit and miss. They don’t even have the look of a good tire, and yes that matters to some. I have the Toyo RT Trail tires and love them. Just a hair over 35k on them with 5 tire rotations at 5k miles. The AT III are the little brothers, and I’ve seen over 70k out of them. I’m a Toyo guy until they let me down.

I have Cooper Rugged Treks in 285/70/17 and SL load. 49 lbs a tire and they're usually on sale.

They hold up on the rocks quite well. 700-1000 miles of playing off-road on Big Bear and So-Cal trails.

It's a Great mix of mud and all terrain.

I've been running on Falken Wildpeak AT's for 2 years so far, good quiet tire. No issues off road, good in the snow. Running 285/75R17 on the stock rims.

My 2020 JTR came with Wildpeak AT3s. On pavement, they were great in snow, rain, and dry. I had no issues off road and I thought they were pretty quiet. They lasted over 55k miles and still had enough tread to pass a biannual inspection. I had the money and winter was coming, so I replaced them with Wildpeak AT4s. I went up from the stock 33s to 35s. I sense no discernible differences, but my son says the road noise is noticeably quieter than the AT3s.

Very impressed with the Falken Wildpeaks that came on my Mojave X. I have 3500 miles on them and like someone else said, they are quiet (for now) and the ride is impressive IMO. When time to replace I will buy again if they continue to perform well but will move up to a 35. Good luck on your decision.
