Bird poop?

Hi Fellow Jeepers,

I was at a friends house with the Gladiator and parked under his tree. When I came out I saw where the birds got me. Then I saw what the picture is showing and my friend reassured me it was just bird poop. When I got home it got the hose and wet it down. It's not coming off. I'm pretty sure that's black primer we are looking at. It's only on the cowling and plastic cowl trim. And It wasn't there a month earlier when I was putting on the light bar. Let me guess, it's a common problem on the painted plastic trim?

That does not look like bird poop. Does it come off with a regular wash? Have you felt it? Kinda gross but it’s one way to tell what it is. That looks like something dripped onto it or the paint has chipped away somehow. I can’t really tell the depth between them from photos. I’d soak it in Dawn to see how it breaks down. It will strip wax or a ceramic coating but shouldn’t hurt the paint.

Try some bug & tar remover, or gasoline.

I hate to say it, but that looks like your base coat is flaking away just based on the picture. Sometimes if plastic doesn’t get prepped well before painting it can come right off with little effort. I could be wrong though. I would take my thumbnail and lightly run over it to see if the black is above or below the base coat.

If the birds in my yard crapped like that, you better believe I’d be camped out with my .410

Looks like that’s on the hood and side panel….hood isn’t plastic.
I’d tend to agree with some others, looks like the paint is coming off.

When was the last time you washed the jeep? Perhaps there’s been something on the paint for a while. Even if it was bird shit, you wanna clean that off as soon as you can. It can eat away at the paint if left on too long.

I went to the dealer for the steering wiring recall. I had them look at the spot. It’s paint flaking off. I’m still under warranty for the paint issues for a year. I’ll let them handle it.

Good to hear they'll handle it. I surely hope its a good quality repaint job.

If I were you.......I'd inspect the entire vehicle for 'paint' issues. Get them taken care of now (if you can) before the warranty runs out.

According to my dealer, corrosion is covered for 5 years, but flaking paint is only covered for three years.

I hope the flaking paint is not 3 years at my dealer. It’s only on the cowl trim. The plastic pieces. They would be easier to paint than a hood. I’ll deal with it with or without the dealer. I ll be sure and inspect the entire vehicle for corrosion. Thanks.

I've never seen black bird poop!. get a good cleaning solution and see if you can remove it.

If you have Mulberry trees around bird poo can be purplish. Once it dries in the sun it takes on a blackish color. Birds love Mulberries. I do too. They stain every dang thing around though so I don’t have any.
