DO NOT watch the video of the Wrangler going down the slope at Black Bear, I watched it with my wife, she is a solid no way you are doing that with me or without!😳

I'd do it! I did a trail much steeper and narrower than that in Coal Mountains. 4LO and hill descent (unless you want to ride your brakes all the way down) is all you need.

Just think of the amazing scenery you'd get to take in.

People Work?
This was Ridgway Reservoir yesterday.
I'm guessing many of the mountain passes are still closed.

No Nancy, the one with the Wrangler rolling down the slope with an assortment of pieces following it down slope in a cloud of dust in front of the guy, not a good thing.

Easy easy Peezy with a gladiator on 40s. I did have the taser set for the trail turn which made it a smidge easier.
Good to know thanks! I have a Tazer and hydro assist. I’ll look into the trail turn setting before going.

Here are a couple videos of Gladiators doing it. I am also interested in doing it. I am on 42x13.5R20 with Hydro Assist.

Hey! That's me! We've done Blackbear in a JK and a couple times in the Gladiator.

I'm on 37s with about a -19 offset on my wheels. About 3" of poke. Easily doable. Just need to add a point or two to your turn over a short wheelbase vehicle.

Thanks for sharing the video. I am going to be in Colorado next month. Not sure if I will be able to do it or not but it is definitely on my Bucket List. My wife has a JL so one way or another we will get done at some point.

Switzerland Jeep Tours does Black Bear in a modified Ram 3500 with a platform that holds 12 people in the back, go slow and you'll be fine, assuming Black Bear opens this year.
LOL, I'm not sure it's wise to put 12 eggs in one giant basket.

I would not plan on Black Bear being open up next month if at all this Summer. The San Miguel County Sheriff really hates it, and. ot sure when the road crew went out last. You can at least get to the summit once the snow clears on the San Juan County side but beyond that San Miguel County is in charge and you'll need to read reports. We just went to summit late last July and still a beautiful trip.

Recommend https://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm for you needs.

I would not attempt a dig on Black Bear Pass... not even in my dreams.

@OP - Full size rigs have done it, you should be fine. Slow... and may require a few more turns than a three point but doable.
I understand from what I read you may never again travel Black Bear again Colsed for the year. The country Sheriff closed it last year and I hear again this year.

My buddy sent our group a text a couple days ago or so, showing all passes open, including Black Bear Pass.
