Well I can join the club 2021 Gladiator Willys with 8.4 Nav and Alpine setup. At 55 mph or higher it sounds like a box fan is on high. Microphones suck. I tried something today that did help reduce the back ground noise by at least 50%.

I placed a foam mic cover like the ones used on motorcycle mic's over the mic's then snapped them back in, put a piece of electrical tape over the top so there is no way they are moving then filled the entire void with ultra soft squishy thick memory foam pieces. It's a temporary fix. But does help. Getting the right side mic out is easy the left one is a bit of a pain. You need to remove the plug to the SOS system to get to it. You will get a notice on the dash that there is a problem with the airbag system if the vehicle is running. It goes away once you plug it back in.

Also, just for a test I traveled over the same section of road with the mic's hanging down outside of the over head plastic to see if there was some type of harmonics traveling down the plastics. There was just as much noise at 55mph with the mic's in open air. I talked to the same person on each test. He is having exactly the same problem with the 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL with the same system. We both have a vested interest in getting this figured out.

I think they used some cheap mics or only tuned in a wind tunnel. When stopped there is no noise at all in either stock or my mod listed above. I have a Galaxy Note 10. Using blue tooth or Android Auto there is noise and it starts to build at 30mph.

One other bit of research. I looked up the Gladiator Mic Mopar # 68292797AA I noticed it doesn't state noise canceling ???? But The ones for the Jeep Grand Cherokee do Part # 68207349AB. My friend listed above also has a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 8.4 Uconnect and has no issues. It has the part number listed here.

Has anyone tried different mic's ?

The 8.4 Uconnect in the Grand Cherokee and the 8.4 Uconnect in the Gladiator or Wrangler JL should be the same. I may buy the Grand Cherokee's ones and try them.

We need a electronics person to figure this out. I have not contacted the dealer yet. Jeep has had this problem since the release date and seems to be leaving everyone hanging. I really don't want to have to start from scratch with them (I will at some point). Kinda like beating a dead horse.

Thoughts ?

I wonder if the mic swap would be a plug and play type of fix. Let us know how it works for you. Going to the dealer to make a formal complaint regarding this.

I ordered a set last night along with a back up factory setup so if I need to I can change out connectors without altering mine. With how the mail and shipping has been it may take a week to get them. I will post results here.

Thank you for doing this, I really hope it works.

I do have a question for you, the people you test called do you know what kind of device they have? Reason I ask is the people that tell me the most they can't barely hear me at higher speeds I know all have android devices, the one or two people that I talk to regularly that have iPhones I can't recall ever telling me that. I use the Pixel 5 previously Pixel 4XL and both had the same issue. I'm sure you read above that I did have the dealership swap out my mics (I'm sure they were JT mics) and it didn't end up making a difference.

Well he had a Galaxy Note 10 plus but today I called 3 people that have iphone's while I was on the interstate and they all quickly stated they could barley hear me. I stopped by a Dodge dealer in Live Oak Florida today and mentioned the issue and of course they hadn't heard of it. I told him I would bring it back at some point but I also called him on his cell and land line and he heard it 1st hand. I also text him several links about the issue on this forum and the JL forum. He advised he was going to look into what if anything FCA is doing with it.

I bought a Stinger Heigh10 and will sell my 8.4" for $1000 so I'll end up spending around $500 and it's been fixed. I used the external mic that came with the Heigh10 and I no longer have an issue.

New member here. For what it is worth, I make my living in communications systems. I have this issue with my brand new 2021 JT (Mine is even unusable parked with the air conditioner on).

My lead technician and I troubleshot and found the mic is too "hot." This means the microphone is too sensitive. In my case I can lightly tap the dash with a finger and the mic will pick it up clearly and it should not do that. We looked though all the settings in the Uconnect system but couldn't find a way to adjust mic sensitivity.

I will contact my local dealer next. I would be happy to have a more technical conversation with anyone from Jeep if they are interested.

I went to the dealer to have it looked at last week. Well, of course you have to rely on the person (jeep dealer) that you are calling to verify there is a problem. They said it sounds fine. So now what? It doesn't sound fine on the other end. If I'm at the dealer when they go on a test ride, you can't tell that they are using the Jeep Bluetooth or if they are just standing still. Aggravating, to say the least.

Update. My parts just came in. Gonna try something tomorrow. I am going to put these Jeep Grand Cherokee noise cancelling mics in the Gladiator once I change out the connectors. A friend of mine did this several years ago in a JL. See pics. The small ones are extras I ordered that are exactly what we have in our Gladiators. ?

I am happy to report this has worked.
Ok. So that definitely worked. 98% improvement. I called several people at 70 mph and they said I was clear with very very little if any back ground noise. For reference I spoke with people that had iPhone, androids and landlines.

Now for Jeepcares to step in and get Jeep to replace the mics.

All though you need to retrofit the connectors and use some gorilla tape to re secure since it's bigger in size and doesn't snap in. This is an easy fix.
