Any special tips on accessing the microphones / trim panel? I really hat breaking little fasteners and hearing rattles after I work on something.
I agree. I will try to do it this week. There may even be a better sound canceling mic. I used this one just as a trail and error and it worked. I really don't know much about the mics or the processor in the 8.4 but there is definitely more love given to the Grand Cherokee. I would think the 8.4 is the same just more effort put into the mic testing.
I bought all the same parts you did and am going to follow your instructions. Is it still working good for you? I am waiting for their delivery.

Here are some pictures of how I used the factory plug and married the two pins. This way there is no splicing of any wires. As you look at the pictures you will see how we cut the factory pins at the crimp. Then we used a small file to take the burs off from the cut. We pushed the factory pin cut off side into the end of the female side of the replacement mic. At the junction put a (little) soder. Once done look at the picture of the factory connector.
We drilled by hand the outer part of the holes so the soder part would push in. (NO power tools) you will notice the pins won't push far enough in to the connector if you don't do this step. DO NOT DRILL ANY THING BUT THE OUTER PART OF THE HOLES. THE PINS LOCK IN THE HOLES YOU RELEASED THEM FROM EARLIER>

Be Gentle. Once the pins are seated your done. Put them in the Gladiator.

Are there the same number of wires on the JT and JC Mike's? Why not splice the wires and use heat shrink tubing? It's like a brand new wire. Just asking since I'm waiting for the parts.

Still works! The wires are the same and that is what I did. I spliced and used heat shrink. The replacement mics don't fit exactly in the same spot as the original mics, but I just placed them the best I could and used a bit of duct tape.

Ordered my parts today too. The microphones ordered say they are noise reduction mics. The Jt microphones only state that they are microphones with no mention of noise reduction.

Which is what I can’t figure out. Why not use noise reduction mics in the JT also? I drive with the freedom panels off and all windows open and the person on the other end can still hear me well enough to converse. That wasn’t always true with the original mics with the windows up. ?

I finally got around to installing my mics (and the sun visor bracket) last weekend. Much appreciation to @Sleighman for being the test pilot and sharing his experience. I am much (much) lazier. I laid the two mics side-by-side and leaving a little extra length cut the wires. I joined them with two crimp butt splices and covered the whole thing with a piece of heat shrink tubing. I left the foam rubber on and glued the mics in place. It doesn't eliminate the road noise, but it is much (much) better. So for about a $25 and one-hour investment, my Gladiator BT phone system is now useful. It is unfortunate that Jeep and @Jeepcouldntcareless won't acknowledge and solve the problem, but this is among many similar issues, such as the sun visor. Fortunately, there are resourceful owners who will share their knowledge.

That's the $64,000 question. Those mics are cheap these days. Even CHEAP head phones, ear buds, whatever, have noise reduction. It's all in a teeny chip. Patents have run out so it's simple and cheap to make almost anything with noise reduction. And they gotta expect these will have panels out, mud tires, and more, making noise, not to mention the rain on the roof of these things.

Got my mics. I have a few other projects going, so the JT waits a bit longer.

I also found it interesting that the original (non-noise-reduction) mics used shielded wire and the new noise-reduction mics did not. I considered shielding them, but that sometime causes other issues if there were not engineered that way.

If the wires are twisted, they should be fine. It's when wires are run parallel you are more likely to have troubles.
Shielding a wire shouldn't cause any issues - not a simple wrap to block interference from near-by wires of other types but honestly, what interference would you get that would impact a mic in these trucks..........
If it was mine I was putting a different mic in, I'd make sure the wires were twisted and not parallel.

I got around to installing the new microphones. The wife says not perfect but totally usable. A big thanks to Sleighman for the time and effort looking up part numbers and the initial test.

I've been watching this thread for a while planning to do the installation during the winter any one tried the microphone used for the ucconnect, as you might know there is 4 microphone in the Jeep 2 are used for phone calls and the 4 all together are used for voice command ... the one for voice command look like the one in the CG and are said to be noise cancelling. heres the part number

https://www.mymoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-audio-microphone-68335415aa

i already have the CG one waiting for the swap but i ordered the other one aswell

ill test and update later
