Well. I was gonna add this to the other cam thread but no cam do. So I started a new thread.

Basically when you cams fail it allows pretty rich transients to escape into the exhaust. Doing this for more than a couple weeks pretty much ensures catalytic failure.

I looked at stock, and while pricey it was not crazy. Then I looked at the Magnaflow retrofits, and they are priced pretty good and I like Magnaflow.

Then I looked at the afe stuff and really liked it. I ordered it but it never arrived ?

While waiting for a month I pit some thermal couples near the first muffler, out of curiosity. What I found is within 200 seconds of run time the entrance reaches 900F.

So I started looking harder at that Kooks green 3" converter I had on my shelf. I was thinking I would just replace my muffler with it. Then I was looking around at bullets thinking maybe I could retain some of the muffler function, this led me to a Craven stainless bullet.

All the parts arrived today and I started fabbing up my new mid pipe. I am hoping this setup is a little more robust if any more failures happen and it is way easier to reach. I could also fab an off road pipe for wheeling trips.

Cool.

Do you maintain a bung for an O2 sensor after the cat? Or can you turn off the need for that primarily emissions control related sensor with programing?? (or a resistor??)

Or does the Jeep even have an O2 sensor after the cat?? Its so funny. After so many years digging around inside and under cars, I pretty much just drive my Gladiator.

Jeep actually has the most confounded O2 sensor setup I have ever had the joy of messing with......not.

At any rate they use not quite WBO2 sensors and trend oscillations to determine lambda. To add to this there is a sensor at each head port before the catalyst and on in the center of rhe catalyst on each side of the engine. The 2 sensors work together to determine the fueling based on O2 delay times and phasing.

So I had to modify some O2 logic to run an empty stock catalyst.

Is there any way to do a cat delete? We don't have sniffer test here in WV, so I could easily get away with it. I've never ran cats on any of my Z06's.

So I went out and did some tuning with this setup. I do not gave a good handle on what has changed yet, but it has changed for the better by a wife margin. It accelerates so smooth and sounds phenomenal. I hope nothing breaks from here on out because this power plant is exactly what I wanted!!!!!!

So you are running the Kooks converter, Craven bullet, AND OEM muffler by looking at your pics?

Yup, exactly what I am running. And I made the converter and muffler removable. Not the greatest for theft, but nice to have if you want a test pipe for crawling, or things need fixed in the future
